Facebook Like Button

Does anyone have experience with putting the Facebook Like button on their site?

http://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/plugins/like/

(I'm just getting into social media, so sorry if this is covered thoroughly in another thread.)

I'm thinking of adding this to all my product pages and wanted to know if you all had any practical experience.

You should consider maybe trying AddThis. Not only does it have the Facebook Like button right in it, but you can also have other services showing up too:

Another one to consider is the add to any button, just Google addtoany

They have several buttons that can be embedded easily into a website and it is a free service.

If you are going down the Facebook Like/Share button, make sure to add Twitter buttons and Google +1 buttons

PS - It's definitely worthwhile.

I have had great results putting a like button on one of my client sites. I admit that it was just one part of a targeted social media strategy that we used but it was a very important.

These days 'like' lists are almost like email lists and if you use a blog platform for your main site you can send out a notification to your like list that you have updated your blog. With informative posts published at the right times you can see a great traffic surge with every post.

IMO If you are looking to social media to gain more traffic to your sites then I believe it's imperative to have a fan page setup for your business. This will enable you to interact with the people that are 'liking' your page. Which in turn adds value to your offering. I know several people who run their entire businesses just off their Facebook fan page!

Hope that helps

As a caveat the my post above I like to view social media as word of mouth advertising on steroids.

Take your case for an example. Simply by placing a like button on each of your products page you give the opportunity for your customers to easily recommend your products to their friends.
Here's an example:
Customer A comes to your site selling "Blue Widgets" and just loves the look of your "Blue Widgets". Right at that moment they want to broadcast their find to their friends. If they see a Like button their its a simple click and bam! Your product has just been referred to all their friends.
This process can be repeated over and over with every customer that comes to your site. Viral marketing is incredibly powerful given the right circumstances.

Hope that helps

Do you guys think it is better to have 1 button like used for Addthis or a bunch of icons like Sociable uses?

I have noticed that if you put the Like button coding straight from Facebook on your page, it doesn't reflect the same number of like as shown on your Facebook page.

instead of Facebook like , i would recommend facebook social plugin where you can display the users faces as well. its pretty cool. like will only show number

also add google +1 . because google is going to do something big with it. just imaging we dint thought about google maps and earth to get these advance when they were launched initially. so be in the game already start using +1

Just go thru with Google you will find - http://developers.facebook.com/docs/.../plugins/like/

Just submit your website and you will get a code. Just put it in your blog.
