is social bookmarking effective?

i have bookmarked many of my sites and waited a few weeks but no increase in traffic. i use social marker, about 20 out of 50. am i wasting my time?

No. But i would say that social bookmarking is the method that be helpful for you get your site pages indexed in less time and will provide the best result of the backlinks to your site and also will increase the traffic. And it will take sometime to crawl and index the site on which you have make submission and when it crawled then definitely you will see the results. But be sure for providing the unique description in your submission.

Yes that's worth it. Submitting your site to social bookmarks are proven effective in whiite hat seo. I submit to social bookmarks atleast one article a day.

If you are missing the 'social' in social bookmarking, then it is just bookmarking which is for referring back to saved web pages. This is ineffective as no one except you and a bored search engine crawler know about it.

Now if you mixed with a few people on that social bookmarking site and they liked what you saved and saved it themselves which was then liked with other people they mixed with and so on, now that could very well turn out to be quite effective. Now a lot of people and a highly excited bunch of bots know about it.

In order to get traffic you have to submit good content which could drive some traffic.

If you are bookmarking your site yourself.....it won't work. Google traces out the IPs of users via cookies. Social Bookmarking links only works if they are bookmarked from different locations, different users, different countries and the users must be old with tons of bookmarks on their profile.

The other way to get social bookmarks is to publish original fresh content on your site. Do some research and come up with new ideas and publish it on your website. People will bookmark your site, or twit it or digg it for free!

Well that depends on what you are sharing with the users if you are just promoting the content of a web page that is not of very good use or tempting users to click or read it, then I think you should stop bookmarking.

I personally used Stumbleupon for one of my friends website and the website was about graphic design and it received over 200 visits in a day from stumble alone. So I would say It depends.
