Facebook Launches 60 New Timeline Apps

Very interesting. I'm an App-o-holic but this new timeline app thing by Facebook sounds pretty cool. Although i don't have FB timeline yet, i may just make that switch. If you can't beat them, you might as well join them.

Facebook’s 60 new Open Graph app partners span a range of domains, from food to fitness to travel, as announced in their live press event January 18. In addition, they will begin the process of approving apps for the new platform, which will allow for greater expression of activities; "If you're into reading a book, or running, or knitting ... the sky's the limit,” the social network announced.

Opening up the app building and approval process also presents a huge opportunity for brands and marketers to engage users. The announcement isn’t surprising, but builds upon the groundwork they laid last year at the f8 Developer’s Conference.

Facebook does its best to attract more and more people to their site and introducing new apps is a good idea. Let's see how they will work.

For me these apps are another way to gain information about the users, I'm certain to that. Look, with this Timeline and the supporting apps will make Facebook an online diary of a user. I feel bad for those users who enjoy their FB life while not knowing something is being taken away from them ... privacy.
I do hope all the application will be filtered to avoid some phishing or spamming situations. My friend told me about an application about "earning money using facebook" but when he clicked on "Allow", boom! that application blasted out spam messages on his friends wall. More frustrating is, he had more than 1,000 friends, and the application keeps on sending spams, he was helpless.

“You choose when to add an app, and you decide who can see it[1]. After you've added an app, you can always remove posts directly from timeline, [2] and you can also edit your settings from your personal Activity Log.”[3]

Made my eye rolls ...
1st underlined phrase: Really? Make me believe? I find it hard to trust facebook.
2nd underlined phrase: Isn't it tedious to do the same thing over and other again? Why not allow users to set one publish settings at once.
I'm having carpal tunnel syndrome for using keyboard and mouse too much.
3rd underlined phrase: Oh my! See my activity stored in your database .. how much when I'm outside Facebook?

It's a good application, i m currently using it, it new and different that's why i m liking it and specially liking cover page option, from which we can modify our profile page and made it different from other's

This is a great move by Facebook as they received numerous negative comments about their new profile design - Timeline. By offering 60 new apps, it will definitely make people switch to Timeline.

everybody have been talking about this new timeline on facebook and 70% of them really hate it....

I have seen many initial negative responses to the Facebook timeline update. But, that is the case every time Facebook makes big changes. Everyone will adapt to it quickly. Eventually, once the roll out is complete, they won't have a choice. The only question left about the timeline is if it will effect brand sites and I have yet to see an answer on that.

i dont think any one gave any negative response to these timeline updates . these are interesting application and facebook is doing good to maintain postion.
