I wouldn't say that Alexa is the best way to judge whether a forum is for you or not.

Depends on what you want to get out of participating in a forum.

Some of them
-you need a pretty thick skin 'cause people can be really nasty.
-are not well moderated so you waste a lot of time reading spam and crap

I would say that from the forums I have visited, V7N is the most social one (and not just because our theme is "the friendliest forum on the net").

Just commenting that Alexa ranking is also useful sometimes. Especially for spotting those mega links
