Anyone purchased ads at Digg?
Has anyone had the experience of purchasing ads at Digg.com?
The prices sound acceptable but I wonder what kind of clickthru rate i can expect.
Your feedback would be appreciated.

I ran site targeted ads with them via Adwords. Poor results IMO. About 10,000,000 impressions with a poor (in comparison) ctr and even worse conversions.

Thanks very much for that.
I'm actually looking into banner-ads, which may (or not) get more attention from surfers.
I'm thinking that I need to buy into the millions of pageviews if I am to get any sort of result, though...
I really can't see a 10,000 banner-view campaign getting me too far because everything is so fast at digg.
Any additional feedback is welcome.

Had you run the zact same campaign elsewhere? (Trying to determine whether the problem was Digg fer sure, or whether it coulda been the landing page.)

Yes, the same creative ran on 5,000+ other "tech" sites.

And it fared better on the other sites? (This is like pulling teeth! Cough up the info, Guy! Jamie Lister's trying to figger out where to spend ad dollars, and the rest of us are looking on curiously, hoping for some good data!)

I would expect Digg to have a very poor CTR and conversion ratio, so it doesn't surprise me.

hehe, yes, it worked better on other sites. To be specific, out of 5,431 sites Digg came in at (based on cost per conversion) 4,932. It cost me 16 times the gross product price to generate a conversion. Even after factoring LTV and all that good stuff it was still a loser.
Not saying digg is a total waste...although it pretty much was for me and the product I was promoting.

Can anyone offer a more viable alternative? Where are some good places to 'spread the word'?

Depends on what "the word" is
What are you looking to promote?

Am promoting my traffic exchange - traffic bunnies, which is a fairly easily promotable site. It kinda generates it's own momentum, but I want to help it along a bit more. Just curious as to where the best spots are?
