I had that virtumonde trojan a while back a complete and utter nightmare it was.

I think it is best to use several solutions where possible because threats are always developing and some software packages identify the threat while others do not and that is with regular or automatic updates enabled.

The best way to remove all virtumonde threats and TR/FakeScanner.f, is to scan your computer with 'spybot search and destroy'.
Kaspersky and other well reputed virus scans only removes part of threat files.
To completely remove the threats use Spybot.

OK skyscraper. Here we go. This may take more than one pass to get rid of but try the easy stuff first.

Download, install and scan your system with MBAM (free) from here .....

http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Let it fix whatever it finds to be definitely bad.

Reboot and see if it's gone.

If not fixed then download, install and scan your system with Superantispyware (free) from here .....

http://www.superantispyware.com/

Let it fix whatever it finds to be definitely bad.

Again, reboot and see if it's gone.

If it still persists I need to see a HJT log.

In that case download Trend Micro HijackThis 2.0.2 here ……

http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en...HJTInstall.exe
  • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
  • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
  • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
  • Click on Install.
  • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
  • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
  • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
  • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" and Paste the entire contents of the log (no attachments) into your next post.

DO NOT use the ”AnalyseThis” button. Its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.

DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what HJT lists will be harmless or even required by your Operating System. Someone will guide you on what to do next.

If you can access the net elsewhere try to download from planetsourcecode a Trojan remover program but its best to format your computer...

Norton AV is the best around; at least in my opinion. However, as you know that's not free.

So skyscraper... how are you going on fixing your trouble?

Ignore all the other posts here except mine and do as I recommend you want to get your PC back to working order.

Your call.

XP recovery

Alex your have to start XP in safe mode then goto the recovery tool and roll back your computer to an early date that you did not have the virus. Then Install an anti-virus program I like Avast free and schedule a boot time scan. Be sure to update your avs first. You should also install a anti-spyware program I like spybot search and distroy. You may need to scan your computer more then once to remove your problem. I hope you backed up your stuff. A virus that shuts down the system like you mentioned sometimes infects system files and you may find that you have to reinstal..
