Corrupted downloads!!!
Just wondering if anyone has ever come across this problem before..
I am running Windows XP Pro on my laptop and am having problems when I download any file from any site, including Microsofts sites etc.
What happens is this - If the file is 5 meg in size, my system starts the download, gets to about 200 or even 300kb and then shows as it has completed the download when really it hasn't.
I have tried this with Firefox also and the same thing happens so I am thinking it may be something to do with the way my system is pulling in data and corrupting it via its ip stack or something.
Not sure what to try here and any advice would be helpful.

Tried ipconfig release/renew? Maybe you just need a fresh connection.

Thanks cheeks, that was one of the first things tried but it seems like it can't smoothly pull data as it even does it when trying to watch a vid on youtube, it doesn't load up the entire vid

I have experienced it. I assumed it was traffic congestion.
You might try clearing cache files before you start if you have a small amonut of space allocated for temp files. All downloads go to temp before they are copied over to where you elected to save them. I have had problems in the past when the system was copying from temp to final destination.

I know what you mean dude, I am imagning it has something to do with downloading via http sites as when other downloading stuff kicks in, Illustrator or updates, it works fine, that is unless it is an update that requires a browser page to open.

Usually - this indicates a problem with your computer's memory. - test it if you can download it properly - http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
It can also be caused by firewall software. Shut off your firewall and try
Kill your antivirus/spyware and try.
The last thing may be packet loss - an isp or cable problem.

I can tell you the answer, but you have to promise to let Cheeks out of the freezer first.
If it's the browser, and it's IE and FF causing the problem, then you can try another browser instead.
I'd also have a go at disabling any firewall/antivirus software too.
(Not just the tray icon, but stop the services if there are any)
If it's a problem with the IP stack, updated drivers will fix that.
If it's something wrong with the NIC then you can try another one if you have one kicking around.

Thanks for the advice Zap dude and to you others also
I managed to find a way around it and that is that I downloaded getright and now every time I try to download something, Getright kicks in and just does it and it works.
I have no idea why it works but it just does and yet not in FF or IE

Mine hates me, too.
Any luck with Zap's suggestion?
Maybe it's time for a reformat? (My default solution, usually works, and makes a computer nice and clean.)
