New security flaw found in IE

What I do not understand, why are people still using internet explorer? But anyway, here is the article. It was posted on the BBC website today.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/7784908.stm
Quote:
Users of Microsoft's Internet Explorer are being urged by experts to switch to a rival until a serious security flaw has been fixed.

The flaw in Microsoft's Internet Explorer could allow criminals to take control of people's computers and steal their passwords, internet experts say.

Microsoft urged people to be vigilant while it investigated and prepared an emergency patch to resolve it.

I really like this part

Why not switch to another browser, forever?

The biggest issue is microsoft not forcing people to upgrade from IE6 to IE7 in a patch.

IE7 has the problem also!

IE is like a virus on your computer!

I seriously need to think about not using it anymore.

^ Yes it is your computer dude but Microsoft release updated browsers (for free obviously) so as to keep up to date and fix issues so where is the sense in not updating and no, they don't force people to upgrade, it is a choice we have.

I am currently running the IE8 Beta and it seems pretty stable.

I have used FF and seen that thing completely fall apart with the issues they had within some of the version 2's.

I have used IE and seen the resource hog it is and also crash.

I still use IE (v FF (v3) and Safari, though my current browser of choice is Safari (for the time being lol!)

One must also remember that as IE has the lions share of the market then almost all hackers etc will write hacks to attack this and if FF had the lions share then they would switch to this..

Exactly. Same with the Mac. Macs don't get viruses because nobody is writing viruses for Mac because almost nobody uses Mac.
It's not because Mac is impervious to virus attacks.
Once the market share of Mac increases, you'll begin to see viruses targetting Mac computers.

And for those using FF instead of IE under Windows, you're still vulnerable to Windows security flaws AND IE security flaws if you haven't uninstalled IE from Windows.

You can NOT uninstall IE from windows - the two are integrated in a way where the OS and the IE browser are tied together. Microsoft was sued in the US federal court because of this.

If you right click My Computer, go to explorer, then type in a web address in the address bar, it brings up a version of internet explorer, which is tied into the "My Computer" explorer.

One of Microsoft's arguments during the United States v. Microsoft trial was that removing Internet Explorer from Windows may result in system instability.

I have IE 6 installed on my computer. Its like an old car parked in the garage that you can not sell.

Even though I have ie 6 installed, I have no used it in over 3 years. Every cince I started using FF, I have not used ie. So I see no reason to upgrade something I am not using.

True enough, depending on the version of Windows and the service pack installed.
You can completely remove it or you can do what MS calls an "Uninstall" but IE is so integrated in later versions of Windows, it will always be there in some form.

I stop using IE since I saw the Firefox for the first time. I advice you to do the same.
