MS Explorer 8

Hello,

I just installed MS Explorer 8, and I can tell you that I am impressed by the speed and new tools.

I am glad that Microsoft made a good version of this brower.

Let see what the others said about it.

Once you go firefox, you will never go back.

I see no reason to switch back to IE x. Regardless of how good its "supposed" to be, I doubt I will ever use ie again. There are a few websites for my real life job that will not work with firefox. But hopefully the programmers will fix that problem.

The number seems to vary so widely from site to site. Some sites have over 40% users who use Firefox.

I agree, particularely if the sites are targeting webmasters, sure they will use FF.

Gosh! How true that is. In reviewing some stats earlier this evening I found that 58% of the visitors used FF at one site...............

and now hold on to your hats....................

Almost 60% at another site still use IE6! IE5 has some %

and the total IE is at 85%. FF only gets 3% with all the others sharing the rest.

These stats blew me away.

Bah, I'm keeping Firefox. IE8 is pretty good and all but, I need addons.

Only other browser I'm comfortable using is Google Chrome

I almost started blocking people from my site because in (1) one day 6 members were looking at 40,000 pages each and using over 1 Gb of bandwidth.

After looking in to the problem I found out the IE 8 has a "browser enhancer" which makes people think they are getting faster browsing or better speeds.

The truth is: that IE 8 is looking at every page a site has when the person goes to the site which makes you think you have hackers on your site.
So when the person using IE 8 goes to another page it pops up because it's in there cache files already.

This problem/matter is causing higher than normal bandwidth useage for the server and burns ups space on a person computer.

Until IE 8 is fixed I'm looking in to a way to block IE 8 browser to my site.

Can you truly afford to lose what may be a very large percentage of your users over the coming year? Heck, even losing 5% of your users is way too big of a percentage! Consider fixing the server issue or find a way not to cache your pages. I would definitely investigate every option before I would ever consider blocking a single user.

I don't know about this. All I can say it works fine, and I have never had this problem.

FWIW I am not personally impressed with IE8 and for the first time, IE is no longer my default browser.
I use both FF and Chrome.

The best browser is FF, but IE8 is pretty good.

88% of my visitors are using IE.

The rule of thumb is to make your site compatible as much as you can with all browsers.

Regarding the IE8 caching feature, does it cause inaccurate statistics to be gathered from either AWStats or Analytics?

I gave it a whirl and I was quickly dissapointed. I mean I love IE, but the loadtime was on par with FF. Compared to IE7, which just pops up and loads the page almost instantly, IE8 was taking upwards af 10-20 second to load a page or picture. Which, in surf-time, is a long time. So I uninstalled it.
