Microsoft Windows 7 Prices Released
And Europeans are gonna be shafted by Microsoft again. Shameful!
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8118749.stm
Quote:
Microsoft will not be offering an upgrade version of Windows 7 in Europe.
In the past Microsoft has given people already using Windows a chance to upgrade to a new version when it becomes available.
While that option will be offered in the US, Microsoft said its efforts to comply with competition regulations meant it could not do so in Europe.
European regulators dismissed the claim, saying the move limited choices rather than opening them up.
|
Quote:
Europeans who want to get hold of Windows 7 but have not bought a new PC will be able to buy it at a discount. In the UK, the Home Premium edition of Windows 7 will be £79.99 until 31 December 2009.
By contrast buying this edition after 31 December will cost £149.99.
|
So no upgrade version, and they are trying to force us to buy Windows 7 by December so they can claim no backlash from Europeans for their shameful treatment. Try to protest by not buying it straight away and they practically double the price on you.
It makes open source OSs seem more and more attractive to me.
Retail prices:
Home Premium - £149.99
Professional - £219.99
Ultimate - £229.99
Discount prices:
Home Premium - £79.99
Professional - £189.99
Ultimate - £199.99

Damnit! Windows 7 should be a free upgrade to Vista, and they should really be calling it Vista SP2. It is, after all, a minor facelift on Vista, and Vista was such a lemon that those unfortunate enough to have purchased it with a PC deserve to get it replaced for free. Of course, the reason they're not calling it Vista SP2 is because the Vista brand is so badly tarnished that Microsoft are dropping it completely.

It's almost as expensive as a new Intel i7 processor
I don't think I'll buy this for at least a year or so... prices, upgrades and a service pack should be better by then.

Ouch.
With the current recession issues in the United States and across the world, why is Microsoft being so steep with their prices? The average person can't afford Windows 7 right now.

That's right! Microsoft should re-think over the prices. If it wants to grab the full market share, then it should slash the prices.

Which is a sure fire bet that Windows 7 is going to be a hot torrent in the world of piracy.

LOL It's more like a major plastic surgery for Vista! Kinda interesting though but I would not buy that very expensive software, Windows XP is still good for me, don't need no Vista either

That is so true! Imagine software pirates earn loads of $$$ for pirating Windows and selling them in very cheap prices. Microsoft should really lower their prices if they want to beat software piracy. After all their aim is to help people with their software, right?

At this rates, it's as if Microsoft is telling "only rich people can use our products, so if you don't have the money buzz off!"

I want Windows 7 but not that badly. Windows XP still works fine for me so I'll just wait until I purchase an I7 system that hopefully includes either a huge discount on the OS or even a bundle.

It's a good decision.
That is the main reason Vista got so many bad reviews. People tried to install it on their XP machines, while its requirements are much higher. Obviously those that didn't have a dual core and at least 2gb ram were very angry to see the O.S. struggle to run on their machines.
Now last year (3 years after Vista release), MS organized a marketing campaign called experiment Mojave, they basically put a copy of vista in a new box with a label "Windows Mojave" and shipped it to users who didn't like Vista before. This time it got a much higher acceptance, and MS demonstrated that their OS was released too early, when too many people still had old machines.
In my country people still buy Celerons with 1gb ram, and they think that Vista sucks because they can't run it on that

I under Linux has evolved a lot and now more userfriendly than previously. The set backs are the technical knowhow to install printer drivers, scanner drivers, wireless connections, etc. Other than these obstacles....it's really a good OS alternative to Windows. If only these Linux nerds can sit together to bring an outright competition to windows....maybe then we can expect some changes.

I would love to give Linux a go especially if Windows 7 ends up finally being a polished turd like Fistya did. The only problem is that I'm a gamer and I'm not entirely sure how that will work on Linux unless there is some Windows compatibility or emulation feature that allows Windows based software to work on Linux.
