Although i was aware of their free antispyware i didn't knew that they also provide free AV but i think for AV we should rely only on trusted brands.

Microsoft is not the only company offering free antivirus and anti spyware products.

windows defender = big piece of crap. If Microsoft would dump a little money into an AV or FW product then it would be king sh*t but they are holding back I think... They need to get with it and make an all encompassing product.

What product has MS every given for free? This does not count packaged products as you pay for the bundle

Even when Windows Defender is there, most of the PC users simply avoided it.
I think MSN antivirus would be free for Windows 7.
Personally, I like Kaspersky AV.

Well as a tech guru people code arround potential virus scanners. So most people iwll just see windows defender as a challanage and break it. Your best bet is getting something like avast or avg or ghost ect. They are less known and most are free.

In comparison of Microsoft anti virus AVG & Avast anti virus performance is far more better & this is the reason that people are using it in much wider manner.
