Well as a tech guru people code arround potential virus scanners. So most people iwll just see windows defender as a challanage and break it. Your best bet is getting something like avast or avg or ghost ect. They are less known and most are free.

Addictive is liked by many
Although i was aware of their free antispyware i didn't knew that they also provide free AV but i think for AV we should rely only on trusted brands.

windows defender = big piece of crap. If Microsoft would dump a little money into an AV or FW product then it would be king sh*t but they are holding back I think... They need to get with it and make an all encompassing product.

I do not agree. MSE will be good product in future and i appreciate all efforts from Microsoft to give us free products and make our PC more secure.

Even when Windows Defender is there, most of the PC users simply avoided it.
I think MSN antivirus would be free for Windows 7.
Personally, I like Kaspersky AV.
