What's your ISP???
I'm hearing a lot about the ongoing competition about at&t, verizon, earthlink.. and other dsl, broadband and dial up services...
I have my own opinion about this,, and that's based on the results and responses I am receiving...
Let me go straight to the point.. Which one do you think is the best internet service provider that gives the best service to people???

I think you'll find there is probably no clear answer to which ISP is better. It really depends on customer needs - also, some services aren't available everywhere so I don't think any one person can get a chance to try them all and judge properly.
Of course the basic criteria for a good ISP is speed vs cost and support. Support isn't as much of an issue to the computer savvy so speed is essentially the only factor and many ISP offer varying packages to choose from.
So although the ISP might be great, overall, you might have a low-end package and get slow speeds which could be construed as a biased negative.
I have Verizon FiOS 20/5 and it is good. It's been known to swallow up a gig download in about 15-30 minutes - Of course that depends more on the server that is sending it out, but it's nice to have that overhead for multiple downloads and a wide open pipe for surfing while dl'ing etc..

With the IP address just go to ARIN or RIPE and search its IP address there, you'll see which ISP is using that person and also an abuse e-mail address so you can contact with his ISP this way if you want.

For now, FIOS is ultimate in speed and reliability. They're NEVER down.
I used to have DSL and it was slow as hell. I'm always on my wifi and it's never been down.

Personally in my situation, I live in the boonies, as such I do not have access to DSL or Cable, so I have Satellite(Hughes Net) and it sucked big donkeys as far as the Fair access policy but compared to dial up as long as you had a good install it is a decent system. I personally now use Alltel(now Verizon) air card with an unlimited up/down account and get a very decent speed and response, customer service is also as adequate as can be expected.
I have the air card connected to a Cradlepoint wireless router using this as my main access for our house and have left the satellite in place for my in-laws to use which is hooked to another wireless router, and for us to use as a back up source in the event that it is needed. I pay $55 a month for the air card and $75 for the Satellite. Been considering moving closer to the town or city lots cheaper in the long run I think :-))

Yeah, but then you'd have to give up the seclusion and privacy. The further away from Wal-Mart the better I say!

Plus, with that 75 bucks you're getting all your TV too right?

Comcast cable when I'm in Massachusetts, and Fairpoint (formerly Verizon FiOS) when I'm up visiting in NH.

Hey there Muddy, nope HughesNet is independent satellite (A different form of Satellite at any rate) it is a two way system with a different kind of dish. I have Dish Network for my Television but that is a separate bill altogether, and there was not a combination deal available when I first moved out here. If not mistaken Dish now offers satellite internet through Blue which is even worse from what I have heard than Hughes....
I agree about the seclusion, that part is nice. Would just be nice if the phone company ran DSL out this way :-)

Different companies are better in diff areas. Cable is faster, but DSL is cheaper.
