IE7/YouTube problem
A friend of mine just started having problems viewing YouTube videos with IE7. (She's recently installed several programs which I suspect may have changed her system settings.)
Whenever she clicks on a video to view it, an error message appears indicating that Javascript is disabled or the Shockwave player is out of date. She has already performed the Shockwave update but I haven't been able to find a setting for her to enable/disable Javascript. (I use IE so seldom that I'm very unfamiliar with it.)
Can anyone tell me where to look for the Javascript enable/disable setting in IE7?
Thanks, Bob

I also had a similar problem before, and you know what I did?
... I switched to Firefox. Very effortless.

Thanks for the link. I'll run through those steps the next time I have access to her computer.

There is the answer to your question right there. Your still using ie7? internet explorer is one of the worst browsers on the market. I highly recommend that your friend switch to firefox.

I have already recommended the switch but she is adamant that IE is the only browser that she'll use. She's not particularly tech-savvy and doesn't trust "other" browsers at all. While she can't articulate any reason for it, her mind is solidly made up on this point.

Delete the IE shortcut and put the FF instead, rename it to "Internet" and there you go...
That's how I made my girlfriend switch to FF and she loves it now.
And when another program or the operating system accidentally opens an IE window she goes like: "WTF is this!" and closes it and opens FF instead

People like that, I tell them I can not help them. If people want me to fix their computer, I do not have time to argue.
Just tell them - "if your so smart, fix it yourself."

C'mon guys, stop the hate. ): I can appreciate being pro-FF (I use it too) but lets not try and force change on people, it never ends well.
Bob, have you tried uninstalling flash? Once that's done, restart then go back to YouTube and follow the link through to install Flash again. Worth a shot.

That's a lot of work when you can just install Firefox Just joking. I know some people do prefer IE. I used to support IE myself.

Doesn't microsoft already force people to have IE by not allowing them to uninstall it?
but I agree with the fact that I didn't help the OP at all with my hate response, I'll try to do better

Go to Internet Options in IE, and then Security.
When it asks you to select a zone, pick Internet, then hit the "Custom Level" button, it will allow you to change your internet security preferences.
It will show you a lot of options, look for "active scripting" and make sure it's enabled.

I agree with Licky here. I'm not a great fan of Microsoft, but this is a webmaster community and the webmasters amoung you should be working with all browsers. That means being familiar with all browsers, past, present, good or bad. To dismiss a user's preference out of hand and not even try to give them what they want is disrespectful to the client. IMHO.

It's not so much as her being a client, she's also my landlady - there's just no point in getting on her bad side.
