IE6 for applications
I'm not really sure where I should put this. I didn't really think Web Design fitted this as I'm not really wanting any help just really discussion, plus its not really the web I'm talking about. Anyway...
As you are all aware browsers are becoming more restrictive. You can't automatically have a page open in full screen, you can't automatically hide the address bar, you can't copy/paste text to the clipboard (or if you can you have to run a marathon to do it). I'm sure there are more restrictions, like popups and stuff, but I'm not going to name them all.
But maybe I'm on my own here, but IE6's method, while yes could be annoying in the wrong hands, but in general they where some really useful commands. I'll give you an example.
In my job I have created a program which contains help and information, useful links, phone numbers, contact, etc all done through HTML. Now as I don't have access to the server or anything, it's just a small HTML file in My Documents folder, but it opens in its own window, pop's up windows when you click buttons, copys templates with the click of a button.
So these features can be really useful when used properly, but my problem now is what happens when we/businesses upgrade to IE8 where all these have become disabled.
What do you think about these restrictions. Do you think they are 100% brilliant. 100% annoying. Or can you see both sides?
I can see both sides, but it just really bugs me. There should be an option that you can request access from the visitor to these functions upon entering a site.
What do you think?
