Microsoft To give Choice of Browsers

Hello Guyz,

I Heard this on the news last week. In the EU from April when Internet explorer updates it will allow you to choose a browser and open access to other browsers many novice Internet users don't know about.

http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=28590

Great to see my browser Opera is in the choices Does this happen in the US?

I bet you, although you have a 'choice' of browsers, there is some sort of 'search engine' by default built in that uses Bing

Doesn't matter to me regardless.

I feel this is just another stupid-baseless promotion by Microsoft to get some attention.
C'mon, anyone can just uninstall IE and download any of the browsers like chrome/FF/Opera/Safari for free and use them.

It is useless. They can't force us.
We can still use any type of browser. What is the use of this?

I read it is only for European users of Windows 7, upon installation it will show a browser selection screen. Glad to see it will be made on other systems too.

The bad thing is that by selecting another browser you still don't get you rid of IE completely. It will still appear on your desktop until you uninstall it (and on XP and Vista uninstalling it is impossible). Bah I can't complain about that, have to use it to test websites anyway so I should not remove it from the machine.

It's definitely NOT baseless. Unless you consider an anti-trust lawsuit of millions, possibly billions 'baseless'

Agreed. Whether if they removed it or not, they still own the majority of share of browsers, so we still have to comply with it regardless.

Bottom line is we would have to install it anyways.

I dont think forcing MS to do that was a valid thing. However this would make the market open for many other browsers.
