Desktop computers, I always build my own because I like to know what I am getting, and have room for expansion etc.

Laptop I currently have a 2nd hand Acer Aspire which I got pretty cheaply.

Wow .. good question.

I just spent the past few minutes trying to figure out what I have .. at the moment.

One day I'll buy an empty shell of a cpu tower, and maybe a week later, I'll install a power plant and a motherboard .. then a few weeks later I'll buy a .... and a ... and a ... and so it goes.

Then I read a forum thread like this one, and I begin to think about all of what might have been included to make this machine run as fast, or as good, as it does.

To be honest ... I don't think you can buy what I've got over the counter in any store .. at least, not all in one neat package anyway.

My wife, however, has a snappy little Acer (laptop) .. I paid 300 bucks for it brand new. She didn't like it much until I dumped Vista, departitioned the hd via reformat, and loaded XP-Pro .. now she swears by it.

I've heard quite a few people over the years talk down about Acer, but since my wife has had this one, I'm failing to see what all of the fuss was about. If Acer ever had a problem, it would had to have been Vista .. because upon after removing that OS, it's been smooth sailing all the way.

It's really cool, man.
I have compared Acer with Lenovo, and find that Acer laptop price is lower than Lenovo. If Acer is OK, I will buy Acer laptop, but I don't know if there is some problem with Acer.

I paid $550 for this Cow, i mean Gateway NV52. About 8 months old and I think it works great. If you want balance between price and quality it's a good choice.
I've know two people with Sony Vaio. They both have had several problems.

If you read the other posts, most people are posting specs on their computer.
But the original poster asked for a brand that you have, as well as price.
I don't see either in your post.

do not go for acer laptop , its very cheap based on the low quality components.
when i purchased acer laptop 2 years back it worked fine for one year alone and when i inquired in service center they said the board gone week and cannot be repaired .
