I feel the "best" brand will vary depending on what you are going to do with a computer. Obviously a gaming laptop will not be suited for a business person and a business computer from brands such as HP, Dell will not be suited for a hardcore gamer.

Actually Dell has been making great gaming rigs. Ever since they ruined the Alienware.
Personally it's custom computers for me. I like building them. Prefab ones always have some sort of limitation put on them (depending on price you pay) and none of them include OS disks anymore.

For me DELL is the best. I've seen some applications working on an old DELL system, that shouldn't work on that configuration.

I've owned and used Apple, HP, Dell, Acer, Gateway, and eMachines. Apple by far has been my favorite. I just recently purchased the iMac and couldn't be happier.

From my personal experience, the brand is not as important as the vendor. Even if it's a well-known brand but the local vendor is not the responsible type, you will still face problems when you need support.
Always assume that a computer will fail. It's when the computer fails, that you will know the true colors of the vendor. Will he solve the problem promptly or will he just take a lackadaisical attitude?
So always check out how the vendor handles his existing customers before you spend your hard-earned cash.

Yes i agreed with your honestly talking and it is difficult to choose the right brand. At present i have been using Acer only, it is also one of the standard brand like Dell. Therefore i prefer, it must be looking stylish with latest configurations to use comfortably.

There has been a study about the average life expectancy of a laptop and Asus was among the sturdiest laptops. So I guess I'd go for Asus they're also a bit cheaper compared to other brands.
