I've voted Toshiba as the best laptop brand coz' it's a "talk of the town" when it comes to durability and performance. Although it's kinda expensive, I think it's better to buy an expensive one that can last a long time without having problems than buying a cheap laptop brand with high specs that can't last long.

My choice will be DELL, since... it perform well, components are reliable enough and cause no problem for long time, other than this look and feel of lappi is excellent, even one can customize it's machine according to its need ... Studio series is the most I liked in DELL

Muddy, i picked Dell mainly because i have one at home and only work on dell equipment (laptop and desktop) at work. One thing i like about Dell is that it's easy to replace the hardware without cutting up your fingers.
I've had good experience with support from Dell when i actually needed help. I'm happy with using Dell for my personal computer. If i had the money, i'd buy an alienware System.

I went with Toshiba. In my experience they have been very good quality. My last one was 8 years old when the hard drive failed, other than that it is still good. Unfortunately the new Toshiba laptops are made with cheaper materials and are nowhere near as durable.
I still prefer them though as they make good cheap laptops. Although, if I had the money, I'd get a Macbook Pro.

So you mentioned. I haven't been real impressed with their website though. Doesn't allow you to customize. Dell does and shows the price change as you go.

The Toshiba Satellite I have has always performed well over the last 5 years; picked up something nasty and had to reformat once. It wouldn't recognize the factory supplied disc so I ordered a second one. It was free but they charge $29.95 for processing and shipping. Got the same error with the second disc. Had to find someone with an OEM disc to reformat.
The Dell Inspiron I picked up last year sees limited use; not a bad machine just doesn't get the use that the others do.I screwed up when ordering the Dell; had multiple windows open and was customizing different laptops and ordered the one without the backlit keyboard by mistake.
Since I started the project here at the house I've been using the desktop quite a bit lately so the laptops just sit for now. I gotta get mobile again...

Oh the other thing I didn't like was they want to charge $120 more for Win7 Pro instead of Home. Even straight from MS the difference is only $50.

Lenovo here. I've used HP and Toshiba but I can't really make a comparison of them. However I do own a Lenovo and use it more than my desktop. Solid magnesium cage, airbag harddrive, BEST keyboard you'll ever use on a laptop (next to a mac that is). I've dropped this one from three feet hitting the floor right on the battery, slamming the lid shut and was still on and good-to-go.
