My MSN is being hacked

I recently saw a thread where someone's Gmail was hacked and believe it or not, I thought it would never happen to me, but alas, I spoke too soon.

Someone has gained access to my personal live account and is sending emails to everyone on my contact list. The emails contain links to weird pages which in the end turn out to be nothing but viruses.

besides the fact that I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would do that, I thought I would mention it here so that others with live addresses can be careful.

Do not open emails with just a one liner and a link, and make you're password expires every 72 days, and keep changing your password.

Does anyone know how someone is able to hack into an email, I mean literally get their username and password so that they can access an email address?

Most likely a simple spyware bot.
They're everywhere, msn, facebook.
And they take advantage of friendly trust.

1. Run a full PC check.

2. Change ALL your passwords.
(Use a STRONG password)

I have been on the receiving end of those emails (not from you specifically). I figured the sender was infected so I just delete them.

Things like this have cost me a laptop before,
Awareness needs to be improved to be honest.

Thank you for your advice. I have changed my password for that specific email. I will be working on my work email as well soon. have to explain to my boss why though I just hope he didn't open any of the emails.

Man, people that do this need to be on the receiving end themselves, so that they can know EXACTLY what it feels like. I mean geez, its my own personal email.....

Dreamrage, if your antivirus didn't pick up an infection, scan your system with this: HouseCall - Free Online Virus Scan by TrendMicro. It might take quite a while depending on how much stuff you have on your drives and how many drives. (hours even)

So far he does, which is really great. It's just unnerving knowing someone's been playing around in your personal emails from friends and family you know?

Thanks HTML Basic Tutor. I will run the scan today. MY main drive is only 160Gb without any partitions, so it shouldn't be too bad.

Trust me Housecall is great, I've actually visited family and set it running, job done.

And the worst things about these spywares is their so widespread!
For example facebook is full of them, it's crazy.

So far everything is ok. There have been no new emails sent. I don't think this person is hacking through my PC. I think it could be software created to use online, where they hack into accounts so that they can then send emails through it.

When I had a look, its not just a generic virus, or worm lol (sounds weird saying that), because each email was different. They had different one liners, different RE's, but the only thing that stayed the same was the link pointing to a web site in france.

This tells me that it may not be PC related. I have scanned and rescanned, and have one final one to do today, but so far everything still looks ok.

email us the message headers and footers so we can get the ip address

trackahack@hotmail.com.au

now we know this would only be the first step to finding them but someone would of left a digital finger print at some point of creation. this is where we come in

1: we get the computers ip that sent them to you (obveosly a puppet) but by contacking that computer owner we can get a list of all connections to and from their email/computer

2: collect the ip of the connection to the email/computer getting other hosts computers ips(and so on till we find the source)

this is not the first time we have done this, we are working with professionals
we are a private group of ex hackers and computer technicians dedicated to putting tracers and hackers to justice.

As much as I would love to nail these people, unfortunately I deleted EVERY email in my account. From the emails they sent, the notifications that some did not go through, ( I haven't had the time to update many of my contacts), I was just so frustrated at the thought that they could see everything in my emails, I got rid of them all, straight after I changed my password etc.

Rest assured though, if they try this again? I am going to be all over them like a fly in flypaper. They won't get away with it again.

I wonder why a person could spent his/her time in coming up with ways of hacking sites instead of doing something useful. I actually don’t know how someone is able to hack into an email, perhaps these people know much about programming language.

They do this because they can make alot of money off it for example if only 3% of people on the internet fell for their fake emails and had their info stolen they would still make about 1,000,000 euro so it is a big racket

I've been wondering about the same thing. I mean geez. its my own personal email. I have no clue either. Seriously, and I don't think emails are equipped to handle what these guys are doing either.

I mean, I can say for sure they didn't gain access to it from my PC, or they would have gotten into my work email as well. and that WOULD have been a disaster.

It kinda makes me lose faith in humanity a little, knowing that people would violate your own personal space this way. It's like having your house burgled.

So they would hack a person's email, hope the contacts then fall for the fake emails, and be ready with a cure? Thats so cold and heartless.

as i said before it is a billion dollar scam plus they can and will use your email and sometimes open a secret websession and use it to launch their ciber crimes, therefor directing blame on the (puppet computer)
