I mostly use mobile hard drives since it's not too much of an issue anymore to carry around a small compact hd, though my 1GB kingston thumb drive still serves its purpose once in a while.

Actually I hate new and sizable flash drives as well. I have my old 256 mb Kingston and my boss can't even realize that flash can be so fast! So for the documents such stuff is unchangeable.

I only have 1 USB flash drive, it's 16gb and I always use it at work. I kinda store there my back up files. It would be nicer to have an external drive though.

I've got 6 that I use. An encrypted Kingston, 4 Sandisk with various bootable OSes on, and a 16GB Integral Splash. Unless they fail, there's always a use for them. (bootable versions of Linux, DOS tools, data backups)

I only have 1 and it's 128MB, it's very old drive, I got it 5 or 6 years ago. I don't bother buying the newer flash drive because I think external hard disk is better.

a handful of 2 to 4 GB.
Very seldom can find them
so mainly use only to transport data files between machines.
Have it in mind to make a bootable linux machine on one though.
Haven't yet.

It's definitely worth putting Ubuntu on one and it only takes about 10 minutes from start to finish. I keep one handy as you never know when Windows will play up
