it is... Kaspersky is marketed as Defender Pro now, my friend has it and loves it. I'd rather not switch from Trend tho, they've been good to m, whereas McAfee and Norton have both failed me in the past

anti-virus
i use them both, but not at the same time... i use the other to counter check the results of one, usually, AVG does not pick up most of the viruses, so Norton serves as the sort of "sweeper" so to speak... as for the system memory, i turn off the AVG anti-virus and use it only when needed (when scanning the pc that is), also removing it from the system start-up... but thanks though...

I moved over to AVG after being a loyal Norton user. Then came Norton 2006 and a Huge chunk of symantec sat on my task bar reminding me of all the system resources itis using.
AVG is clean and works fine.

steer clear of Norton! unless you want to be held to ransom by your own computer after a few months use, its a horrible program just type in 'problem with norton' into google and you will be horrified at the amount of people asking for help.
If you have XP with sp2 then switch on your firewall and install AVG free version
its by far the best value (its free) and with xp firewall it is extremely simple
find it here:
http://free.grisoft.com/
BTW its worth mentioning that its untrue that companies use Norton...companies use a corporate version which is utterly different from the version for individual users.

Panda Platinum 2006
I used to use AVG exclusivly.
It would let the occasional virus thru.
The last straw was when it let a Christmas Virus in and destroyed a HD.
This was about the same time Sygate was sold to Symantic and was no longer supported.
I did alot of research to find replacement Firewall and Virus programs.
I finally decided on Panda Platinum 2006.
This was an all in one type program, Firewall, Virus, Email, etc.
They had a 30 day trial period for it.
I was very impressed with this software and decided to pay for it.
All the features have performed flawlessly ever since.
I have'nt had any conflicts with other programs.
It does have a fairly large footprint, but it does alot of duties.
The memory usage isnt that bad.
It is VERY sensitive on Virus detection.
I guess my only con with it is,
that it takes quite awhile for boot up and shut down.
There support is terrific.
IMO, It's worth the money.
Take Care,

Hi maxim,
In what way is the corporate version different?
Are you talking about the sigs, the way it binds itself to your OS or resource drain etc.

I have heard good things about bitdefender but I have not used it so I can not pass an informed opinion on this.

I can't stand the way Symantec software has to constantly and garishly remind you what a wonderful job it is doing.
I want AV software to hide away and do its job transparently. I like McAfee, always have

The best antivirus protection is to remove your floppy drive, your CD rom drive(s), your network card(s), your USB ports and your modem. Do that and I can guarantee you that you will never have a problem with a virus or spyware.

Norton and Mcafee SUCK! They rarely actually help, and they cost a ton! Plues, they block your games unless you configure them.
Here are my favorite:
Spybot Search & Destroy
AdAware SE
And the one that microsoft just released.
It is cool, because I got Microsoft's Antivirus software for free, since I downloaded the beta version If I wanted, I could always buy the full version for $20/year, because I tested it, but free is better!
And I think there were more, but I can't remember them. Get the first 2 at download.com, then Microsoft's somewhere in Microsoft.com's Download section.
Also, always use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer. Firefox is much safer. And if you do use Firefox though, download the add-on called NoScript. This will maker browsing even safer, by blocking all scrips, unless you allow access. If you can't find this, I will look for it for you.

Yuripro84, I wouldn't actually go as far as saying Norton and Mcafee suck
A lot of blue chip companies inc colleges and universities use Norton or Mcafee and though they have to pay for them, they use them for a reason.
In my 12 years in the industry, I haven't found a better one than Mcafee (v10 - Their latest) though I have installed Avast on my gf's system.
Ad-Aware
Spybot
Spyware Blaster - Preemptive little baby thats also free.
Tit-defender (Microsofts baby) are also installed and running on my system.
Also Mcafee v10 - Updated of course
I also agree on the FireFox front dude :-)

Well, McAfee isn't bad, but I hate, HATE Norton's. Norton is almost worthless if you have McAfee, Spybot S&D, Lavasof Ad-Aware SE Personal, and Microsoft's new antisoftware program. I really wouldn't suggest Norton though, because it has caused me and everyone I know more problems than it has solved. There is also another program that warns you of certain things others will not that has saved me once or twice, I will show you guys, and you can see if it works for you too if ya want To all of you who say IE is better BTW, my antivirus programs have never gone off at FF, but go off all the time when browsing in IE GO FF!

I have never heard of it?
Well, why we are in this topic, what is the best for removing viruses? Because I have a computer filled with viruses, which is why I got into downloading these antivirus products. No scan has removed everything though :/
Of course, whenever a scan detected them, there was the cost to remove them (go figure).
