Norton is a CPU hog!
It eats up lots of your resources.
I highly recommend KASPERSKY!

"VIRUS DATABASE HAS BEEN UPDATED!!!"
I use avast... so far no problems (after 3 years)
My PC came with norton but i took it off straight away. They use it at work as I think the administrator side of it is quite good.. but it used to slow our machines down a lot. Mine as polling the system every 20ms. You can change it to 3000ms in the prefs, but it still uses a lot of resources.
I also had zone alarm installed as well alongside avast for a bit and it seemed to block a few unauthorised connections from the net. My trial ran out tho..

Am using Avira, had a virus that I couldn't get rid of with AVG, but fortunately Avira did the trick and will stick with it now.

I've noticed this post is bumped so maybe I can get a bit of feedback based off my requirements.
I've been using AVG Free for years and loved it up until it was no longer configurable to shut down during gaming. Even though there's only 2 AVG processes running, they always run and represent approx. 70,000 K.
I'm a gamer (obviously) so I'd rather use this for gaming. What in your opinion will keep the least amount of background processes running and is the best FREE version? If possible, I'd love the option of disabling anti-virus entirely while gaming.
I've been looking at Avast but have never used it.
Any recommendations?

I have been using the ZoneAlarm Internet Suite for the last couple of years, I have had no problems as far as viruses or other things since I started using them, though honestly didn't have any before when I was using AVG either.
One can get Zone Alarm Internet Suite for free by using the TrialPay.com option at check out, don't start the purchase to the big package, when you cancel the sale it gives you the offer to purchase it through trialpay and get it for free.

I use Avira AntiVir, it really works for me, and it's FREE. It scans not only viruses and trojans but also heuristic behaviour on your PC. Avast is also great, and maybe I'm crazy or what, I liked it when it detects a virus.

I'm using Panda Cloud Antivirus.... something like that...
It was just this month that I used it, but it's very effective for me plus it consumes less memory usage and very light. The installer is only 14mb...

I use Avast Antivirus. Of course it is good but I replaced it with better Anti virus, called ESET Smart Security. I think this Antivirus is the best right now.
