As a developer, Firefox is standards Compliant - However as most average internet users dont even realise that they use "Internet Explorer" to surf the internet - I have to still hold onto IE to test any sites that I make.
Firefox, or Konqueror under Linux. Firefox under Windows.

FF or IE?
Linux or Windows?
Butter or Margerine?
Unfortunately there is no answer for this. Each product will have its advocates, some for no other reason than they read a couple of years ago on AntiOnline that it was cool to flame Micro$oft which must surely mean FF is better right? Believe it or not IE does have its merits, even if it is only accessibility (meant in the way most PC users have immediate access to it, not in the W3C sense).
With this in mind, use the software you are most comfortable with, not with what everyone tells you you should use.
Oh, and one last thing, Firefox rules and Micro$oft IE sucksssss!!!!!

Because it's sharing resources with the OS. Windows itself would be more efficient if it kept less resources in memory. Why, for example, do you need a large HTML rendering engine to browse your hard drive, use the Start button, and see icons on your desktop? You don't, but it's there, and that's why IE appears to use less resources. But in fact it's not, it's just sharing what FF doesn't.
I recommend people drop Microsoft sofware completely. The alternatives are far superior.

FireFox for me, thought I occassionally use IE for testing. The tabbed pages for FF and the extensions are what I liked the most. IE 7 has tabbed pages feature but the time I tried it, it was not as good as I would have wanted.

Konq is nice under Linux, but I had trouble loading a few sites with it. Mainly the sites fault, but if it doesn't work, it doesn't work, right? In any case, I only use IE to test the sites, and Firefox for everything else, everywhere.
I'm glad to hear FF2 will have the built in spellchecker (which better function under Linux as well!). That's the main thing I miss from Konq.
What distro are you running? I've got Mepis on my Laptop, and PCLinux on the desktop.

I like that feature. You can always retrieve a closed page from History too, I have to do that occasionally.

There is a mod like that for FF, but I got tired of it. More often than not I landed up getting the last pages when I wanted my home page.

I do recall it not working right a few times but where the opposite was the case, I'd be brought to the homepage when continue from last time was chosen. It's worked right most of the time for me though, in Opera.
Actually, it seems an inconvenience having to choose before the browser will open, I guess I just like having the option if it's a time when I wanted to have the option. I can't wait till they come out with keyboards that read your mind.

As long as you can get online, it does not matter. I use to use IE until for somereason some of the website I would go on would not load anymore. So I started using Firefox, then again for somereason some website would not load with firefox so I use IE. I go back and forth

IE (6) is inherently less secure because it's too integrated with the OS. There are also far more holes that allow a full compromise of your entire system in IE. IE also allows the background installation of viruses on your system (assuming you're on the default security settings).
IE is not nearly as secure as it can be. Plus aside from all of the security issues we know about how many more do we not know about? Microsoft works in secrecy. Firefox is open. If Firefox has a security hole someone found, everyone knows. Even if IE was more secure you'd never know.
I could go on and on, but it's easier for me to send you to a full article I've written about Microsoft software's lack of security.

I prefer Firefox myself. Can not make myself go back to no extensions and no tabs.
