Do you mean "getting a screenshot" of your browser window, or creating a screenshot of the webpage similar to what Alexa does?

You could always use the 'Print Screen' button and then crop the region you want in photoshop or Paint.

I dont' know of any free apps, the one I use is paid for, and to be honest I can't think of the name of it right now. I'm at work, sorry.

Red face

thanx guys, but i know how to print the screen.

i was looking for something which would give me shots from the perspectives of different browsers than what i have on my computers, instantly (without hour-long queues) and without need for downloads.

so far all i know of is this Safari screenshot tool: http://www.snugtech.com/safaritest/

similar for other browsers would be much appreciated if anyone has the links

I doubt it, as it would be quite an insecure thing to do, because basically the machine that is viewing the website is essentially being run from your computer - at least the browser window's address is.

What do you mean?

I dont have safari browser on my computer so the screen shot must be remotely taken by another computer, surely?

I mean on the machine that the Safari browser Is running.

Imagine the following scenario:

Joe Smith runs his "Safari Server Screenshot" program on his server and goes to bed.

Mal. Hacker comes along and send the safari server to a website url that contains an exploit for that version of the Browser (if one exists, most likely it will), and depending on the exploit, the server could be under the control of Mal. hacker within a few minutes.

i see what you mean - but if w3c have validation scanning then surely this kind of thing must be relatively secure for ppl who know what they're doing.

Scanning a page's text, and loading up a web page fully in a browser are two different things.

sure. the former is followed by the latter. loading a page in a browser involves:

a) scanning & interpretting the code

b) producing the pretty pictures and other output

chances are the browser won't create an output that is dangerous. i think most danger is with reading and interpreting the code which could contain ways to crash or manipulate the reading mechanism. the internal browser processes which produce the output from the inputs that have already been read and accepted should be relatively safe.
