Macs Spread Malware To PCs
I'm glad I don't have a Mac at home.
Quote:
Call it Steve Jobs' revenge. Security vendor Sophos has discovered that one in five Mac computers surveyed carry malware that could infect Windows PCs. In a bit of delicious irony, only one in 36 Apple computers were found to be infected with Mac OS X malware. The results bring an odd sense of urgency to worries about Mac security.
Macs As “Patient Zero”
While Windows malware can’t damage a Mac, UK-based Sophos encourages Mac users to be “a responsible member of society” by ensuring their systems don’t...

I used an iMac recently and when plugging the USB back in to my Windows laptop and the properties page of the USB just randomly opened:S Scanned and nothing was picked up.
Something I did notice that when moving just 1 file from the apple mac 3/4 dot files were also transferred over. The dot files were hidden.
Anyway back to the subject this does not surprise me.

That’s certainly true, but the reality is that Mac users have pretty much gotten away with lax security,

Agree with that 100%. Most Mac users I know boast not even having an AV.

The Mac Malware Flareup: Time to Panic?
OMG, look at the old school computer picture when you go to read this blog post.
Quote:
For Mac owners, the alarming news just keeps coming. Two weeks after the Flashback trojan infected hundreds of thousands of Apple-branded computers, a new, more devious strain is being reported. Flashback.S, as the new variant of the Java-exploiting malware is called, is even more subtle than its predecessor and thus can find its way onto users' machines more quietly. Suddenly, Mac users find themselves considering whether or not to install antivirus software.
To even ask such a question would be unthinkable among Windows customers, who for years have been the main targets of hackers and cyber criminals. Microsoft's desktop operating system still dominates Mac OS X in market share, but Apple is selling more and more devices each quarter. While the bulk of its revenue now comes from iPhones and iPads, the company's laptops and desktops have become more popular over time.
Malware on Macs is nothing new. In the 1980s, simple viruses would spread among early Apple machines via floppy disk, and later by CD-ROM. Twenty years later, the first known virus targeting Mac OS X surfaced.
For the most part, the history of Mac malware has been...

No computer or OS is 100% safe from malware, whether it be Windows, Mac or Linux.
Knowledge and common sense are both the best offense and the best defense on the internet.

Hm... Interesting article. I have Mac and I do not have Anti virus as well. More and more people are having Mac now and so the hackers are targeting them. I am really not sure if there is good FREE antivirus for Mac. I was once searched for that and found some websites. The websites seem like not trusted so I never download and try.
Any recommendation for Mac Antivirus here?

Most Mac users I know believe that there aren't any Mac viruses so why would they need an anti-virus. I tried to teach them better but they are all so stuck-up on how good and safe their precious Mac's are that my words kept bouncing back...

AVG Free can also be used on Mac and it does have pretty good reviews, but experts mostly recommend using Sophos.

Weird. Mac malwares are only intended for Mac machines. Macs and Windows have a different system structure so there's no way that a certain malware from Macs will cross to a Windows machine.
