Microsoft releases Windows 8 Release Preview
A little late, but better late than never!
Microsoft has released the next preview to the public for testing.
Official website:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...elease-preview
What's new in the release preview?
http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/b...-windows8.aspx
Anyone using it? I got the RP the day it was released and I must say it is quite nice. It's a lot more stable and the performance is absolutely amazing compared to the previous Consumer and Developer previews.

Well following the history of releases (especially Windows 7) most logical release date would be in the October range 2012 (as Windows 7 was also released in October).
Although Microsoft hasn't set a determined release date for Windows 8, they've made some pretty heavy hints at an October release.

You can always try out the current Release Preview in a dual boot or on another computer.

There is no set release date as of yet, but Microsoft has hinted at possible October release.

I'm currently running the release preview on my desktop and it's been working amazingly well. Metro, when modified to fit my needs, also works wonders on my desktop.
Windows 8 might be the most viable for mobile and touchscreen devices, but it certainly does work pretty good on your standard desktop with mouse and keyboard just as well.

I think windows 8 will be good on tablets/notebooks and mobiles but not on a PC. Windows 7 is well designed for PC's.. I don't think windows 8 with catch on..... It will be another vista!

I like the feature "Do Not Track" in the built-in Internet Explorer version 10 about to be released in this Windows 8 OS but it comes without the traditional Windows Start button. Hope they will have the better navigation by replacing this traditional one. Lets see!

Isn't there a possibility to "switch off" the Metro design when on a PC or a laptop for example?
BTW I like the idea of consuming a really little amount of memory. I've heard that Windows 8 can run on devices with 64MB of memory (having in mind what they did with with Vista and it's huge memory consumption).

I really want to try the new Windows 8, but I'm afraid it will make my computer crash since all the bugs haven't been worked out yet.
