Windows 8 and old software

I have a lot of older software that still does the job for my limited needs (examples below). I would like to take advantage of the upgrade but have no desire to buy all new software. Anyway have some authoritative information or knowledge on the subject?

Software I do not want to upgrade:
MS Office (2002 with SP3)
PhotoShop 6
Quicken 2006

I have no promises that any of these will natively work on Windows 8 - however, if you're really in need of them you can easily virtualize a Windows XP install nowadays.

Support for Office XP (2002) will exist with Windows 8, since it's easily supported by Windows 7 as well and they're both pretty similar in terms of software that they support.

Photoshop 6 will not be supported, neither will Quicken 2006 be.

This thread just sorta sit here like a dead brick for a while and now it looks like there is some interest. Microsoft has a page that will read your system and tell you what you have on the machine that will or will not work.

Actually that isn't true. PS 6, not CS 6 is reported to work just fine.

I just wonder, how this can be a successful OS when it is not supporting the software that runs better on its previous version? Normally every product when they releasing the newer version they will slowly degrade the support but this seems not like that. Incompatibility to support the software that runs pretty well on its previous version would be a pitfall of its popularity perhaps!

In fairness, the software Scriptman described in his Original Post were all years old, released before Windows 7 and even before Vista in Office 2002's case (Scriptman, seriously? The worst Office release ever was 2002 and XP, get 2003 ) so they've supported it for a long time already.

Dan I worked in upper management in a franchise environment and the prevailing attitude was wait until the third roll out before implementing anything Corporate suggested.

Hence I don't buy the latest version of anything. Now 8 is 3 removed from XP which was a winner and I might point out the third since a winner.

I skipped the most of the losers and I would like to continue the trend. Oh well there was FrontPage but everyone has to screw up now and then.

If you are not willing to pay then you can't update softwares. But if you have license version and bought with free lifetime update commitment then you can update it through internet. Or else buy it or forget it.
