Best Free AntiVirus Software?
Can anyone please recommend me a really good and effective free antivirus software?
I'd love to buy Macafee or Norton, but unfortunately, I just don't have the money right now...so I figure, there must be a free alternative that is just as good or even better - there usually is.
If anyone could share a link or recommendation, it'd be much appreciated. I'd like one that is updated frequently, etc.
Thanks.<3
I love you.

I don't mean to sound biased in this first part of the post but even if you did have the money I wouldn't buy Nortons. If you want a free anti-virus then I would suggest either AVG Free-Edition or Avast Home Edition, backed by ZoneAlarm free for your Firewall and Ad-Aware Personal SE and Spybot Search & Destroy for your Adware and Malicious Malware needs.
Save up the money and upgrade to paid versions though as it is much better in the long run, especially if you are into P2P or downloading, although i'm not saying you are.

Yeah I tried AVG Free and when I had my two viruses before I formatted my hard drive it didn't pick it up, although other software I had did...that made me not go for it.
I was looking at the one that Sophos.com provides as they have a 30 day evaluation period and they seem to constantly be updating their databases for virus protection and whatnot...that's what I'm really going for.

I can't say I have had any difficulties at all with AVG but I have never used it on a PC in which is used for something which gets Virus's personally I would go for Avast but a word of warning keep your speakers low when thats updating as it freaks you out.

Ok when I was asleep my Avast decided to update and my Speakers were on loud and I have a 30 Watt Sub-Woofer which was on and a built-in-voice says:
'Your virus database has been updated'
Of course when your asleep and something that loud suddenly goes off, it kind of freaks you out.

What do you guys think of using both Avast and AVG, together?
I downloaded Avast but ZoneAlarm isn't detecting it as an AntiVirus software...and it seems like a weird program IMO.

My mum ran Avast and Nortons together by accident and it comes up annoying Incompatible Software every time you boot up.

Not a good idea to run 2 antivirus or even firewall software together because;
1, They will slow down your system as they compete for CPU cycles.
2, Your system has a higher chance of comming up with errors.
Throw either one or the other on and just make sure it is updated regularly.
ZoneAlarm is pretty good as a firewall so you got a good start there

I have to say Kaspersky, I like it a lot. It saved me when I first bought it, I had a pretty bad virus on my old computer.

Av11 symantec software is very good one .
When buying a antivirus software make sure that it does not occupy more processing time and memory. It may speed down the system performance.
antivirus software should be more powerful on detecting the new virus

I'm currently using AVG, and I love it's service. Since I'm an avira user before. And I find avira not accurate unlike AVG.

Avast is a very good antivirus. It has a many features to offer that are free. One feature that is unique to avast is its capability to Scan on boot up.
Avira is also good. The only downside of Avira is that it lacks spyware detection. But you can always get a spyware detection software that is also free.
AVG is the most popular free antivirus. It has very good detection capability. One thing that is great about AVG is its updates. You'll have an update almost everyday.
