Microsoft Is Shedding 18,000 Jobs in the Next Year

Microsoft has announced that it will be shedding 18,000 jobs in the next year. A majority are coming from Nokia. 13,000 employees will be getting the notification in the next 6 months

I guess having your company bought out by Microsoft isn't always a good thing?

It's unfortunate that cuts have to be made especially for those who are maybe going thru hard times already. At least according to the article, Nadella said that he "promised severance and job transition support to all affected employees." What job transition support entails... I don't know but hopefully the affected employees are able to get working again sooner than later.

Sad to hear this. Nokia used to be a world leader in cell phones but they gradually lost this over the years, and now they are becoming much less relevant in the space.

Lots of competition outthere and Nokia wasn't the best in following the mainstream trends like Android.

Why did Nokia hire an ex Microsoft boss instead of jumping on the Android train? Look what it brought them

Technology giants are automating their process and don't want humans anymore. This is the tragedy of this era which our Governments can't control. Want to know why because Businessmen are the political leaders ...

I wonder if this is also related to shipping the jobs elsewhere, where labor is cheaper.

This is really disaster. If Microsoft is doing this then what will happen of these educated employees. This all is happening because of Nokia as it doesn't fallow the market trend and proved itself a looser in the market.

I'm wondering what all the other tech companies will do in the future. Efficiency, outsourcing and the globalisation will probably make other big companies also to cut their (labor) costs.

I personally think that Windows 10 is going to be a winner. They have done away with the dreadful metro ui and gave the people what they want which is a desktop OS. I cant wait to get my hands on it.

Windows milenium suck
windows xp awesome
windows vista suck
windows 7 awesome
windows 8 suck
windows 10 awesome
windows 11 suck?

see the pattern?
