Will you be upgrading to Windows 10?

http://www.pcworld.com/article/28732...d-8-users.html

Quote:
It’s official, folks: Windows 10 will be a free upgrade for existing Windows users—as long as you claim it quickly.

Kicking off the consumer-focused Windows 10 event in Redmond on Tuesday, January 21, Microsoft operating system chief Terry Myerson announced that current users of Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 will be able to upgrade to the new operating system for free as long as they do so within one year of Windows 10's launch—even if your version of Windows is pirated. Once you’ve claimed the upgrade, it's permanent, and Microsoft will keep you updated for the supported lifetime of the device.
So for those of you currently running on Windows 7 and Windows 8.1, are you going to upgrade to Windows 10 when it is released?

Even if Windows 10 is free for first year, I will be happy to stay with Windows 8.

I'm just wondering if upon getting the upgrade we get a product key for Windows 10. I honestly prefer doing clean installs over upgrades.

I do hope Microsoft offers the Windows 10 ISO off their website so one can download and burn to storage media!

I will only upgrade if it has some brilliant additional features which we don't have in Windows 8. Just wait and see.

That's a deal, I'll upgrade from 8.1 to 10.

I like Windows 7 though and will wait awhile before upgrading that computer.

I'm thinking not. To be honest I'm an avid fan and user of Windows 7; it was a much improved OS from Windows VISTA and looks tremendously better than Windows XP.

I think MSFT should just save Windows 8+ for Mobile Devices; even then it's rather difficult to find a reason to switch.

I have reserved my upgrade. I am really excited about the new browser edge and the personal assistant. But I really don't understand why they are giving it for free.

My only app (apparently) that was not going to work with the upgrade was Norton, and now it seems the app has recently been updated, and so again, apparently, my system and all the apps should upgrade, hopefully without issue.

That said, I'd recommend the following - if you have the hardware and backup software...

I'm going to take an image (clone) of my drive just before the upgrade, to an external drive, then I'll initiate the upgrade. Why? If the upgrade doesn't work, if more apps fail to run - if there's any issues whatsoever, I can stick in the backup and continue along, learning from the mistake.

If the upgrade goes without any issues, then I've got nothing to worry about and will enjoy the new OS.

I read somewhere you can "go back" after the upgrade installs, but I don't get the warm fuzzy feeling that a roll-back will work. 2 cents.

Not sure if I want to upgrade or not. I have some old software that I got running on Win7 and am nervous about loosing capability of using a bunch of stuff. The non techy in the office ain't going to be happy if their hours of work won't work after the upgrade.

Last day a pop up suddenly appeared in my laptop (it runs on Win 8.1) when I boot it up and they offer free upgrade from 8.1 to Windows 10 (For those who have legit copies of the software), but I'm staying in 8.1 at the moment. I'll wait for the much more stable build of Windows 10 before upgrading.
