Having Serious Problems - Virus/Spyware/Trojans :(
Hey All,
Today I was downloading something from a friend and it contained a virus, so I started a scan from some serious old program of mine and found ALOT of problems on my pc, regarding virusses, spyware and even trojans!! But the program can't delete it, cause I have to buy the program.
So now I'm asking you specialists out there, which are the best freeware programs to get this fixed? I want them to scan my pc like on a set date and time, and also delete/edit things if something is wrong...
I have no knowledge in this, I know what spyware, trojans and virusses are, but that's just it! Oh yeah and I know they are ANNOYING!!!
Thanks in advance! Cause i'm getting really annoyed with my laptop, while it should be here to make things easier for me, it's making it alot harder
Thanks!

Some of the viruses and spyware you end with in your computer prevent you from using antivirus and antispyware programs to get rid of it.
I had that happen to me because I did not keep up with the updates on ServicePack2.
Every program I installed to get rid of the virus wouldn't allow me to keep it open long enough to get rid of it. I couldn't even use Hijack this.
I found the file where the virus was located and uninstalled the program and then reinstalled it. No problems after that.
I make sure I keep everything up to date now because it took me 4 straight days trying to figure out how to get rid of that bugger.
Hope you get it straightened out because I know how frustrating it can be.
Best of Luck,
Lynn

I am tempted to go with these;
Online virus scan:
Spyware scan & remove:
Then I would reccomend purchasing a copy of Mcafee AV (Latest edition of course) as my AV software is something I don't mess with and there is a reason why some are paid for and some are free.
If you don't want to pay for one, then of course the next best options are the free ones

I have yet to see an antispyware/av program that does exactly what it says, and without hickups. A few will do a good job for the most part but will still leave a dangling process or registry entry somewhere, and that may allow for "self-healing" of the malware. Often manual removal is necessary.
Also, I came across a few grbage programs that will download and install other garbage programs while they are being removed in the firstplace. It makes sense to disconnect from the net while cleaning the PC, and then reboot, reboot, and reboot after every scan/cleaning action before reconnecting.
Sometimes it's all a question of time economics; will it be faster to reinstall the OS and all the programs you use, or to clean the PC off the viruses?

If I were you, I would purchase Spyware Sweeper. Its a really great tool to have. Also, I recommend Ewido, Ad-Aware and Spyware Blaster. You can find all of these at download.com except for Spyware Sweeper.

You make a good point there. My pc/laptop rarely get infected with crap i can't get rid of 'completely' and instead of waisting hours, i reinstall my OS in under 30min pluss all the programs, a lot quicker and that way you can be 99% sure ur done with those little buggers

I have both PC's and Apple's in my office... and I never (I mean never) have had a virus/adware/spyware/trojan/etc... on my Apple.
I love my PC's, but I can't say the same about them.
Solve your problem and buy an apple

Well, that's your opinion
As for mine, just tighten security up a bit and remember, freeware is free for a reason, so think about buying the software you can't get trials for even, they are'nt cheap for a reason, G10 made a good point above !
As for backing up your files goes, its pointless to simply copy them and throw them onto ur spare disk, scan them and make sure 'they' are'nt infected first!
I use a mini-60GB external disk for my backups, plug it in, save stuff, plug it out, put back in my laser protected, mine infested boobetraped safe (ontop of my desk lol)

All OSes are vulnerable.
See here, and here.
I think running an A/V and antispyware on Mac would be asprudent as it is under Windows.

Tried to do the online scams, but then my pc got jammed, didn't do anything, had to reboot.
I noticed what the virus is, it's called: VirusBurst. Anyone who can help me get rid of it? Cause I hate the continuous popups of all the naked people! ugh
