CC vs BCC

What's the difference between CC and BCC?

carbon copy and blind carbon copy.

basically if you put a recipient in the BCC box, they receive the e-mail but the other people (in the To and CC boxes) don't know they have received it as it doesn't show up.

With CC, everyone can see that these people received a copy of the mail.

CC clearly indicates that an identical email has been addressed and sent to more than one person.

BCC is still sent to more than one person, but doesn't easily indicate it, nor does it display the multiple email addresses. This one can be considered rude if the original person you sent it to is not aware that others have seen the correspondence also.

Or if you prefer, here is the Microsoft Office Explanation.

Cc
Cc is shorthand for Carbon copy. If you add a recipient's name to this box in an Outlook e-mail message, a copy of the message is sent to that recipient, and the recipient's name is visible to other recipients of the message.

Bcc
Bcc is shorthand for Blind carbon copy. If you add a recipient's name to this box in a mail message, a copy of the message is sent to that recipient, and the recipient's name is not visible to other recipients of the message. If the Bcc box isn't visible when you create a new message, you can add it.
EDIT:Ooops! Davey beat me to it! I guess he types faster!

I prefer to bcc when I'm sending emails to friends especially. There are so many people that do the reply all and why should they waste my other friends' time in reading a personal email to me. Same goes for business announcements. I do the bcc so businesses don't get replies from the others in the email.
