IE Redirected to Google
My wife is having some trouble with her IE Browser. She has Google Desktop. Everytime she tries to open any page in IE, it get redirected to www.google.com and then IE times out with a blank page and no URL listed. Any ideas? Is there an easy fix? Thank you!

In Internet Explorer, if you go to Tools - Internet Options, what is listed under the home page in the General tab?
You might need to add a page and then change it back to the page you are wanting.

Everyone here must also remember that there are Trojans etc. that can cause redirection to fake Google site(s).
pckooistra ... to check what may be lurking on the computer ... download HijackThis from here ...
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html
unzip & install it ...
open the program ...
from the menu click on "Do a system scan and save a logfile".
Copy and paste that logfile to this thread. If the report reveals any malware specific removal instructions will follow.

Hi there,
IE has set Google as the default search engine, and is trying to search for the site rather than go to it.
That is a problem I come across before. Although when it did this, it wouldn't go to Google's homepage, it would actually search for the site I queried for.
I would agree "oddjob" and probably come to the conclusion of a Trojan infection on your computer.
Get a good Antivirus > Remove the virus > Download "Mozilla FireFox" > and see for yourself which one you prefer.
Personally I prefer Internet Explorer, but Mozilla FireFox is better in some ways.
Regards,
Kieran Taylor.

I would un-install IE and re-install.
See if that helps.

Ok just in addition by shear coincidence I think I happened across the same problem myself last night on a different site, thats if it is IE 7 you installed.
IE 7 is really beginning to pee me off, I swear its slower that its previous state.
Ok you do probably have google set as your default search on the IE site itself in preferences.
Last night I was on Yahoo, I clicked a button to goto part of overture, a yahoo screen opened which then had a redirect on it to overture, but the redirected screen wouldnt display, so I turned the IE popup blocker off on the search bar and hey presto the overture redirect then displayed. Annoying really.
