Antivirus
Hi,
My wife and I have been using PC Penicillin over the past couple of years with great results. We have the computers scanned for viruses weekly and can remove any that are necessary with just a few keystrokes after quarantined.

I was using Norton for the last couple years but decided to switch to the free version of AVG. It has found risks that Norton did not pickup.

And do I really need a firewall?

Not necessarily. Depends on (a) if you have a good hardware firewall [NAT router, e.g.] and (b) who you believe.
Some say that, if you are hiding behind a good hardware firewall, and are effectively "invisible" on the web, then you don't need one.
However, I would always advocate having as much protection as you can. A software firewall (which is what those listed above actually are) would certainly do no harm.
Hope that helps.

Well, they are free and won't do any harm so why not?

my fav antivirus...
AVG is the best.. avast is good too, kaspersky is good too.. but i recommend AVG .. coz it's FREE, light.. doenst eat much of your PC memory.
Norton is good but it is quite heavy and i've discontinued using it coz while it is, say, scanning your pc, it may affect the performance of your pc.. making it slow (unless you have a high ended PC).
of all, the basic mantra is "update" your antivirus software regularly.. all antivirus software works fine if updated regularly.

I use Symantec and have been very happy with them. They are very good and are constantly updating when a new threat hits.
