iPod Touch
I'm planning on getting an iPod Touch over the holidays - the 16GB version. It's very similar to the iPhone, I've heard. The guided tour makes me happy.
Does anyone have one? Comments, praises, and criticisms?

I'm trying to wait for the Google Phone (whenever that day comes...) but I'm tempted to get the 8 GB touch now.

I ondered getting the phone here in the UK. My qualm with the phone is that everything is great, but even if I could somehow justfy spending the money on the phone, the monthly plan bills would kill me in a short amount of time.

I remember Mikey had one, I had asked him what the differences where because the iPhone and the Touch are so similar. He said basically that the Touch is a bit slimmer, and that it had the black around the edge instead of the silver, which he said made it look better.
Anyways... if there's an Apple store nearby, go and check it out and play with it a bit. They don't mind. Or, if not an Apple store, I'm sure it is carried by other retailers who'll probably have it on display.
But....what happened to the poor college student?

I'll do that when I get back to Canada! And the poor college student has Christmas and a birthday coming up, not to mention a brother that owes her $80.

Nope. The scariest thing about the phone is the monthly package costs.

I was reading up on the possibility of a 32GB coming out next year, but everything is so vague and I don't think it's quite worth it to wait.
Besides, I would end up spending that christmas money on silly things like... food.

What are the monthly costs over in the UK?
Here it's no more than any other smartphone or phones that use data plans. I had a Sidekick 3 with Tmobile, and it was just about the same...although the iPhone is way cooler and I get much more use out of it.

How much is your monthly plan?
Right now I'm on pay as you go, and I'm averaging so very little, around $20 a month. You're a bad influence... I'm considering.

I did a pay-as-you-go as I wasn't willing to commit to a 2 year contract. So its a little more expensive. It's $80/month. $50 for the minutes, $20 for the data, $5 for extra text messaging... and I don't know what the other $5 is for. Taxes maybe? There's a slightly lower plan that comes to $70/month on the pay-as-you-go. I think on the regular plans with a contract, its like $65/70 per month and up. I should probably switch to the lower plan soon as I have accumulated a huge balance in unused minutes.
Christy - the Touch is not a phone. But it looks a lot like the iPhone. It pretty much has all the features of the iPhone, but no phone.

I've been reading up a bit. Some major questions are key in my decision:
If I get a US iPhone (my cousin lives in NYC and $400US is less than £269), can I buy it without the network contract?
I would want to go pay as you go in the UK - can I safely unlock the 1.1.2 firmware without losing features?
Would the then unlocked US iPhone work in the UK?

Yes, you don't sign anything until you activate it.
I don't know anything about the unlocking procedures, or about using it in the UK.
