HP has admitted this manufacturers error but is not offering a solution to the problem. Yes, you can send it back in to them for repair, but from what I was reading from all the people that did, they either got them back still not working or they did work for a few weeks and then the same problems occurred. So what would be the best course of action besides just going to the store and buying a new one but with a different brand name?

Just send it and we hope for a good result.

Service Pack 3 is alright.
I believe it has more security features than SP1 or SP2.

Having slow boot time (even to load desktop) and sometimes it won't even load the desktop with SP3 and also application loading time as well. Switching back to SP2 until the end of the year.
Lovely, it won't let me downgrade lol, love microsoft...

Try slipstreaming. I hate to install things on top of other things on top of other things...

So far, I have used XP SP3 and no serious issue has occurred to me. However, do avoid IE 8.

I tried before XP SP2 and didn't encounter any problem, hope that this SP3 is more reliable than his previous version...

I think for those that are not sure whether it will be ok to install the xp sp3, i would recommend that maybe you try clone a copy of your current working windows using ghost or image center. After you've done clone/backup to a image, just start download and install the SP3, if it work out fine and everything, then you can either keep the clone file or just delete it, and if it doesn't work well, just restore back the clone, and your windows won't get hurt nor you need to reinstall everything. All its take is about 10~25 mins to clone, and to restore is almost the same.
I've installed SP3, so far no issue yet. But for some of my customer's pc, its show some sign of "This driver is only support for Windows XP SP1,SP2 and ME, 2000 only." Hmm...thats a the manufacturer driver coding problem.

I agree a clone would be best but what about setting a "system restore point" before installing SP3? If it all goes wrong you can revert to that SR point.
Of course, if the SR points are messed up with the SP3 installation ..... well, in that case, I guess you would be in trouble unless you had a full clone.

Good man, Microsoft love this sort of thinking dude as it earns 'em lots of money
Spent 12 years in the industry and am actually Microsoft Certified and I still suggest that people keep away from their latest OS's until they have been out for quite a while..... Not sure Microsoft would like my stance on this though

I am waiting for this new pack. This pack includes the four features,
1. Network Access Protection compatibility.
2. Product Key-less install option
3. Kernel Mode Cryptographics Module
4. "Black hole" router detection algorithm
