Outlook Express Problems-Please Help
Hi everyone,
My husbands computer has Outlook Express 6, it was working just fine, now its not. He gets this error message when he hits the send receive button.
Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'pop-server.rochester.rr.com', Server: 'pop-server.rochester.rr.com', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '+OK 12390 octets', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F
The internet is working fine, and when I called roadrunner, the settings we had for the email was all good, and when webmail was checked through the roadrunner website it was accessible, so roadrunner says its not their server.
Anyone have anything I can try to figure this out.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions, thanks.
Linda

Not much of a solution, but more of a work around / a way to see if it's the program itself would be to try setting up the email settings on regular Outlook. If it works, then I'd say just re-install express.

Let me answer that reply like the total idiot I am.
Do I have to find outlook, install it, try it, or do I have to uninstall the current version first, then go to microsoft, download outlook, install it, try it, etc ?
Sorry but I'm not totally to quick on stuff like this.
Thanks.

The Windows Update yesterday is causing some problems for people.
Try using System Restore to a time prior to the update yesterday then you will know that it has something to do with the update. Possibly messed up your firewall?
If you want to try reinstalling Outlook Express, it is part of Windows. Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs/Windows Components.

htmlbasictutor,
Thanks, that worked great. I restored the system back to a few days ago, and its working just fine now.
Of course, the solution has caused one additional question
After the restore and reboot etc, the little icon on the bottom shows windows updates are ready to install ! I clicked out of it, assuming that it could possibly be the same update that messed stuff up in the first place, Yes or No ??
Thanks again,
Linda

Click the yellow symbol in the system tray.
Select the Custom Install radio button then Next.
Click the boxes next to the Windows Update (the checkmark is removed). The defender one didn't cause any problems for me.
Click Install if there are any updates left.
The yellow warning will remain there untill you let it update the two you unchecked.
You will have to do some research on why the update messed up your machine. It's affecting people different ways.
