Reset button is best solution if Alt+Ctr+Del do not responds. If task manager opens then best way is to end unnecessary tasks.

I currently have Windows Vista set to shut down and force close delayed closing programs when I hit my power button.
Shuts down in a matter of a second.

reset is what i usually do. if this is whats going on with your computer then definitely you need to buy new one.
or try disabling the unnecessary services and start up config
try start > run > type "services.msc" withot the quote.
imnot sure actually if its services.misc or the other one. just try taking the "i" out if it dont work then youusuallydouble lick the services to set it to manually or disable.
disable the uneccesarry services because its unneccessary.

Reset button might resolve almost all problems if there was such a button.

Reset button would be the finest choice by others, computers that hang means it's already frozen.
Hit the power button or just pull the plug.

Observed for 2 minutes then, if it's still hang I normally enter alt-ctrl-delete. If it's still doesn't work I press the off button. If it's still not work again, I unplug my computer.
