Angry with Microsoft installing junk on my computer

A couple of days ago i notice a message coming through messenger from Microsoft it was about make a mini-me, i ignored until today. i thought i would have a look at what they are trying to push. it was chiildish thing but looked like a bit of fun so idecided to have a play with it.

i later realised that microsoft have used this to reset my start page and install something in firefox. i set my home page back to igoogle and and run system restore. when i opened firefox i was taken to my homepage but a second page opened up with msn. i really dont want this and i am so frustrated at the fact that they did this.

any ideas or suggestions what might have been installed and how to get it out of my firefox installation.

Well first of all, microsoft would never send you a message to download and install something. So you got phished.

Second, whatever microsoft would have installed, would not have cared less about firefox so it wouldn't have singled it out and instaled something to it.

Chances are likely you downloaded malware or even a virus and you need to remove it. Run your virus scanner and see what comes up. Download and run Spybot S&D and see what comes up. Also there is a HiJack sticky thread here, you can install HiJackThis and do a scan then post the log for others to take a look at.

Its not like MS was the real origin of your download

it definitely looked like a genuine microsoft website. I will see if i can find it. I am probably susceptible to attacks through msn as i have a very old version of messenger. I will make it a priority to use s&d. Thanks for the advice.
