How are things ordered on BlueFind?
Like in the category I'm in : http://www.bluefind.com/dir/5743.php how is it determined what site goes on top, for instance? Editors choice, submission date?

Any particular reason for that? Over time, early supporters will be at the bottom of the list...

We'll probably change it to alphabetical pretty soon here.

hmm, yeah you never know though, he might do an editors choice catagory, and list the people who supported him early on top. :-p

slip JS a bit more $ and I'm sure he could think of a way to get you listed at the top

I might be giving away my own "great" idea here, but to emphasize that it is different I would recommend reverse alphabetical. if you do not then my next directory type project will do this
I have many fun ideas, just too many to do them all

I was thinking more like a rotation. A's at the top for a week or month, then B's then C's, etc. A script could be written to do that, no?
Or is it just a horrible idea?

id do something for of.. top one goes to bottom
everyday to keep a constant flow moving.. cuz like when it gets more sites in it (and it will ) there could be like 100 sites in a category that start wit h.. wait
then it would take a really long time to rotate all sites.. i dunno? how about random
ORDER BY rand()
would work

Yea, the moving the top one to the bottom each day sounds cool. How much time would it take each day for the list to rotate?

none, it would just be two mysql queries instead of just one.. have it store somewhere what # you are at for the category then have one query select from that number to bottom, then the other one selects from top to that number..

relevancy would be hell and cause all sorts of complaints..
number of hits would start making it like a topsite of sorts.
rating system could easily be hijacked by bigger sites getting more ppl to vote then the smaller (and sometimes better) sites. random place or a rotation.

It can't be random. There has to be order.
