Content?

Just wondered -

Do you ever plan to add websites to the directory?

I think it is quite comical -

Its got this brilliant alexa rating,
High pr,
Good search engine rankings ( I presume with that pr)

Yet it has no content?

Before anyone gets off their horse for a fight - this isnt an attack - its merly a question.

There's approximately 400 sites there now. I'd say that's pretty good if you think of the few people actually working on it as editors. It's also a paid submission so it'll take a bit for people to see the benefit in submitting there.

I figure any directory being heavily marketed, with little content, means that the content actually listed there will therefore stand out better. Therefore the *potential* benefits in terms of human users and search engines are rather significant - and certainly much more than overcrowded low PR directories.

Um, duh. I can't imagine, at the moment, a stupider question.

The entire purpose of the directory is to catelogue sites, so the fact that we will be adding sites is manifestly self evident.

Yeah, PR8 always cracks me up. Whenever I see a PR9 I bust a gut, and those dam PR10 sites - well, I just fall off my chair laughing whenever I see a PR10.

Guess how many sites Yahoo's web directory started with. Or how many did DMOZ start with. I'll give you a hint - they started from zero.

An excellent seo I have heard, But John, stick to the seo - your not a comedian.

Ron, ahh nevermind, maybe just post me a link to one of your resources?

Actually John - im glad your arround again, Mite get some sense in some replies.

A simple eveluation is you have a pr of 8 because of the internet.com links. All well and good.
In turn this means google visits the site more, probably a few times a day, increasing your alexa rating. Mine does exactly the same. Every time google comes along and visits every page in my site my alexa rating jumps up a few hundred thousand, mainly due to the amount of pages it indexes, each with a unique ip address.

I merly asked if you ever planned to add web sites as it seems you have done everything but add content. A web directory with no websites in it. A novel approach to creating something different I guess.

Maybe a stupider question could have been -

Whats the use of a directory that has no links in 95% of its categories?

Google's spider doesn't have the Alexa toolbar installed, so that shouldn't increase your Alexa ranking.

You really think so? I've been told my humour is dry, but I always crack myself up...

One of my sites alexa ratings was about 600, 000 - very new site.
Google comes along, crawls all 3000+ pages, that day my alexa rating is in the top 100,000 - it was around 89, 000. Day after, its back to its lowly 600, 000 mark. I always notice everytime google crawls my site - because of the amount of pages - im in top 100, 000 for that site.

Sorry bout the humor thing, but not to worry - I cannot sing.
