V7N Enables Embedded You Tube Videos

We are introducing the ability to include embedded You Tube Videos within your post on a trial basis.

- This option is enable for You Tube Videos only.
- Do not add videos which have embedding disabled.

Adding Embedded You Tube Video To Your Post

From the advanced editor (not quick reply) you will see a You Tube icon that you can click on.

Name:	utube.jpg
Views:	2358
Size:	61.1 KB
ID:	10873
click thumbnail to view

Once you click on the icon you will see opening and closing youtube bb code. In between the opening and closing bb code, add the id for the video.

Name:	yt.jpg
Views:	353
Size:	38.3 KB
ID:	10875
click thumbnail to view

As an example, if the URL looks like the one below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oztkl0GKTng

You only add the text after the v=

Oztkl0GKTng

When you find a video through the related videos areas though, it adds more information to the URL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3dGHj5Zzss&feature=related

You would NOT add the information including the & sign

So in this example, the following would be incorrect:
F3dGHj5Zzss&feature=related

The following is correct:
F3dGHj5Zzss

Again, this is only being offered on a trial basis. If we find that offering this option leads to issues, such as member abuse or substantial slowing of the forum, it will be removed.

Special Note: The rules involving this option will be the same as those concerning adding links to your posts. Starting a thread to promote your own videos will not be allowed. However, we will allow our members to link to their own videos when it is relevant as part of their response to a thread.

You can also display Google Videos by clicking on the Google Video icon and inserting the docid# from the URL.

Nice feature. I tried it earlier today. It took me a few tries to get it right as I wasn't aware of the nice instructions outlined here.

2 questions:

why not use the automatic media embedding modification at vbulletin.org? Its a lot easier for the end user.

if we are not supposed to post links to our own sites, can we post our own videos?

Nice addon, I would of opted for the AME mod as well, so all the user has to do is post the link and it'll work automatically
