How about Cricket's Saloon? A place where people can post nonsense threads and post. This way the forum lobby would not be filled with trash posting.
How about Important News? A place for posting important news that affects webmasters and business people.
How about a dedicated Tutorial Section? Sub categories: HTML,CSS, PHP, Ruby On Rails, Drupal, Joomla, WordPress, MySQL, SEO, GIMP, Inkscape, Blender, Linux Basics

Too much fragmentation would do more harm than good. But a Tutorial section where users can post start-to-finish tutorials would be interesting.

I agree completely. While using so many subforums might be too much, I think that having a single Tutorials category would be terrific. We certainly have sufficient expertise here at v7n to populate it very quickly. (A subforum with links to good tutorials found elsewhere might also want to be considered.)

Finer granularity is good. People can find what they want quickly and quickly see if anything new for photoshop without having to do a search. This increases usability and usefulness. A person can start reading a section and just start at the top and go. If everything is mixed such as: SEO, Web Design, Starting a Business, Growing a Business, Coding, Graphics, Website Promotion, Hosting, and Mod Rewrite people might not see anything that interests them. If they saw a lot of SEO and Coding on the the first page they might think there is nothing on photoshop and leave. In addition to ease of use, having more sections makes it easier to rank well in SE's if things are themed tightly. So when people search for "SEO Tutorials". V7N will rank well and be on the first page of results instead of being on page 50. Also maybe a Tutorial Request section could be good.
There could be a section called Tutorials. Main sections: SEO, Graphics, HTML, Promotion .... Then Graphics could have Raster, Vector, Animation, Flash, .... HTML could have: (X)HTML, CSS, Dreamweaver, .... Well you get the idea.

What did you think the purpose of the lobby was?

Aprt from the Robs getting his wrist smacked again section I would like to see a "mentoring" section both in terms of newbies starting their own online business and a "how to do" section. I know there are millions of thread that ask " how do I" etc but its could be like a quick fire Q&A thread so people just wait until someone answers correcly, ( maybe the correct answer via the poster gets additional rep or something ) - yahoo answer type thing. Also in term of good ol serps - the "how to" market would bring in addtional members ( not that you need it ).
tutorial section would be a good idea

I always wanted to make a thread asking about people's biggest source of visitors other than Google, but didn't know the suitable forum to post about that
So a forum discussing ways of getting traffic would be good

Just thought of it too! The "Traffic" category would be often posted into, I think. As new sources of getting traffic appear from time to time (e.g., social networks), it makes sense to keep a ready place for them rather than creating another category.

Perhaps a forum or sub-forum specifically focused on Googles webmaster tools, how they work, what value they are, how to install, etc
Google Analytics
Webmaster Tools
There must be many others, its not an area i venture into except for the above ones.

It could be called Traffic Jam! I love it. The overlap would be interesting ... it involves SEO, direct marketing, SEM and more ...

These could be very good if we could get quality posts on them. We might float a thread or two and see what sort of response we get ...
I like the Tutorials idea a lot, and there could be sub-cats to make it more easily accessible for each ... such as Graphics/ Photoshop, Web Design / SEO / Webmaster Tools, etc.
And when there were terrific ones, we could create a sticky in the regular category to link to those. So, for example, someone browsing in the regular Graphic design board would be able to find a Photoshop tutorial easily ...

a sub forum of SEO called Video SEO would be a great idea as it is still quite new, changing all the time and will get bigger and bigger. It could perhaps go along the line of the tutorials sub-forums where people add tips and ask questions.
my 2 cents

What about a sub-forum for Mobile SEO. I know there is not to many threads floating around about this but it was my only suggestion.
The changes made in the marketplace is super cool.
O wait, i just noticed a light bulb over my head. What about a sub-forum for "Bing"

Instead of Bing, why not "Other Search Engines" so Bing, Yahoo Baikidu or something and anything else....
But does anyone really care about them? I know here in Oz, 90% of my results come from Google.

If you have one for Bing, you will want one for Ask and Yahoo; since they get more traffic from failed Google searches than Bing.

Scratch the Ask.com idea. Read this http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2010-1...ch-effort.html
Note, if ya'll want to comment on the link i just posted, create a new thread so we can discuss it. Let's keep this thread for suggestions for V7N forum only.

I'd like to give a +1 to the tutorials forum idea.
Also a mobile forum would be a good idea, even if you bundled coding for mobiles in with mobile SEO.

Would there be a need for a forum dedicated to keywords? Being such a vital part of seo and marketing, i just wonder.
