Green Bars
I wonder how some people get their “Green Bars” in this forum and what is a criterion used to award one to some members.
The reason I am asking because apparently some members getting them for verbal puke they spelled over this forum. After following threads and reading some total of 20 –30 meaningless, without any substance and definitely made to increase their posts count posts, I can’t grasp why and whom gave them 5 and more green bars.
Nothing personal, just curious.

Some users are getting them from helping and supporting, others get them from friends just saying hi (like I got today) and some from staff just letting them know they're doing a good job on the forum.
It's not the post count, it's just busy support and giving what they know to the community. Members here know the limits (we hope) and of course will post a lot to increase their post count but does nothing for them if staff wants to make them a mentor or staff member. Usually this is looked at as a post whore, common word used these days.
Hope this helps.

A good transaction, helping out others posting useful threads/comments helps getting them. I am sure nobody swear about the cheating though

This is exactly what has been puzzling me.
Yes, you can make only one single post and get flood of well-deserved green bars, but I am talking about when post is a twisted copy of the one that guy or girl made before you posted and when you got recognition whereas original poster got nothing.
I better start make friends fast and learn how to bend over to keep Mods and Admins happy or I may say goodbye to my reputation

Edited: I better start now
The reason I made my post because I do believe that Cricket made very good point in this post http://www.v7n.com/forums/forum-lobb...y-posting.html

This is just a normal thing on forums. It's a weight that many people have had who have been here for so long and dealt with newbies eating the veterans good work and using it to make good for their own.
Green reps are garbage, it won't do anything for you or show any recognition for you at all. It's just a feature for people to enjoy so they can let others see how they're doing and etc. On the other half, others use it to their advantage to show others that they are a trusted source for the forum.
Don't let this be your focus as it will just haunt you in the future and bite you in the butt.

The green bars are linked to reputation points. If you like someone's post you can give them reputation points for it and send them a message saying you approve.
There are also red bars for those that misbehave, again these are linked to reputation points (negative). Few members give these out.
Its best not to worry too much about the green bar or reputation points, they really don't mean much. I guess they are like a pat on the back to say well done for a particularly good post. Its better to concentrate on making good quality posts and helping out where you can.
Different members have different reasons for giving them out. I give them out for those who are particularly helpful, those that make me think or laugh. Increasingly I tend to use it to pass on private messages to other members, generally messages that do not require a response.
In general the more green rep. points you have the more helpful you are supposed to be. But then I got a full rep. bar and I'm sure I haven't helped anybody.

Good piece you wrote StrongInTheArm that may explain basics to newies, which believe me I am not one of them.
Now. I am not talking about well-deserved reputation points, I am talking about posters who repeat the same phrase somebody else had says already. Sometimes when I read some post, I read the same point again and again and it sound to me like an echoes but repeated by dozen posters.
It says to me
a. poster replied to 1 post without reading what others said,
b. poster made post after reading what others said and made his just to increase the amount of posts but instead of posting ‘agree’, ‘me too’, ‘good point’ etc. recycled previous posts.
I happened to read these so called posts that I would delete on my forum because of total uselessness and lack of any contribution to any member WSE. And yet, I see bunch of green bars that say to me:

Just keep posting, you'll get more. You seem to be on the right path. FORGE ON!!

Hey ewomack, you know me better than that and not just by green bars reputation.
I'm sure you and maybe some others know my reputation and no green bar will change that.

Hmmm... It takes an awful lot of rep. points to add up to one green bar and I don't think its possible to give one person points repeatedly. There is a point where the system doesn't let you give any more to the same person.
I suppose its conceivable for a gang of friends to join a forum and bump up their green bars but I don't think that happens here. At least I've not noticed. And what would be the ultimate end? Its not as though John Scott sends you a stripper if you get a full bar of green.
As I recall it had a purpose in getting to be a mentor but the rules have changed.
All I can suggest is keep making good posts and threads and eventually members will notice. Whether you have a green bar or not is immaterial to that process.
In fact the problem arises if you have a full green bar and people notice you making bad posts on a regular basis. I'm surprised they haven't cottoned on to me yet, its only a matter of time I guess.

I don't even worry about it.. I check every once in a while and go through the recent reputation and read the comments and look back at the posts I got them for.

I found this which seems to explain the whole reputation system quite well.
FAQ - Reputation System
Some values might be configured differently here...

Now you're talking.
I'm trying to make this single point and nothing more after reading total of 20 useless posts poster has been made and seeing 5 green bars, one should ask himself: what is going on
As I said before, I'm just curious and not about 'how to get them' but 'why some people reward useless posts'

SITA is right FR!
The rep points is just a way or some form of appreciation to a certain member who made some good post, good response, good point, gave help, gave support, etc...
But it cannot be given many times to the same person. You could distribute them in the most rationale way you could do.
You know what I wonder with mine? I mean my green bar, I know I'm not playing too good in here. Neither help a lot of other members. But maybe it boils down to the perception of others to you. If they feel like, this member is good or this member has something good to share, they recognize you and give you points. I am not expecting that I can get more reps than I wanted. And I'm very thankful with this people. So much that I sooo love the forum because of this people.

hmm.. that I am not sure of! maybe because they were friends? (the giver & receiver). Or the receiver asked the giver to give him one so he can get a green bar!
*which i experienced ready. somebody did PM me asking me to give him a point for his post. what a shame! but then again.. it's still up to you if you will give one or not.

I have noticed that the long-time members here tend to pack a real punch (point wise) compared to average users when they rep you.
I'm guessing just a couple positive reps from them can fill a bar in no time.
