The idea is to add value to a forum, but so many people see it as a way to get free links. I sometimes wonder why they bother, i don't think, in reality, they add much weight to seo, generally because the links are on pages with many other links and also they have low pr.It's possible to get a similar amount, if not more, from article marketing.

Try checking your site link popularity and that would give you the proof of forum links.

I do check regularly,and thats why i made that comment. I'm not saying the don't have any value, i just mean that imo, i don't think they add a lot of value
