Post Frontpage 03 Help..

Hi, I currently use FP to make websites, I'm fairly comfortable using it & some of its features, however there as come a need for a site with a database interaction so i can allow specific users access to input data & other things & it shows that data in tables on certain pages & so forth. However i know nothing about the Database Interface wizard & finding it hard work trying to find tutorials & other types of info & help online. I have a web host with mysql & so forth & have had experience creating database's for forums which basically auto install themselves anyways.

My question is, does anyone know of any good info sites for a beginner on this aspect & how to set it up & so forth. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

thanks

Ok,

First off Frontpage is probably not what you want to use to make your db app.

There are many third party asp applications that will do the trick.

Without knowing what you want to do I can't recommend one.
There are lots of cheap and free out of the box asp and php scripts available.
FP 2003 won't chew up php or aspx, so look around for a pre-built script. Lots out there.
If your host has mysql, chances are he also has php.
Why re-invent the wheel.

lol, well ill give some info on what i would like to do so you could give me some recommendations.

1. I would like to have the ability to add names to a list
2. To add amounts of info to that list in there own columns from the date, txt info ie memo & numerical info at the end column, like 200 & if i put -150 it would subtract from the first 200 added to end up with just 50 so to speak.

Its basically something like the following http://www.phantasy.dk/Nation/?page=aps

each user when you click there name will have a history of given & taken Aps & for what reason.

Hope this gives an idea of what im trying to make. We used to have one just like that, however the owner decided to demand costs we was not willing to pay or merited the use so i was asked to make our own.

thanks

About the time I started using databases was about the time I quit using FP.

You can use it to create the html portion of your pages and plug in the php or asp using a text editor like notepad2 (free).

A Better choice is to write your code in notepad2 or other editor and only insert the html template that you created using FP.

Never use frontpage to upload any script. It will break the code everytime.

FP 2003 will "import" scripts just fine - if you publish you may have a problem with some links. 2002 and below had some issues

I suggest you to first start learning the basics, so you'll have (at least) an idea about what a code/app will do when you'll look at it.

http://www.w3schools.com/ -- has always been a good starting point.
