Sites that Clients can Manage

I occasionally have non-technical clients who really want to manage their own websites (small updates, adding newsletters, etc). They just need a designer to get it started, get the logo up, and give it a professional look. What's the best system for such a thing? WordPress? Any that are more SEO friendly?

I setup wordpress for people all the time. Very SEO friendly, has spam guards, idiot proof, very easy to manage.

Make sure the server has fantastico deluxe on it. It will make life easier.

Ditto on the Wordpress recommendation. You can also set up a custom admin interface for your client, excluding certain sensitive settings. Last time I checked, Semiologic provided a solution for this.

Depending on how much flexibility your clients need you might also want to check out a CMS (content mangement system) such as Joomla, Drupal, Mambo, etc. Joomla is very SEO friendly....

Gary,

Though I'm obviously biased, I would suggest EditMe. We can slap any design you can dream up into an EditMe site and your client will be able to edit every page (and add new pages if they like).

Matt

WordPress or ExpressionEngine

Can't go wrong with either one of them.

I use MODx for my clients so they can manage it themselves.

Only think with wordpress is that it's really blog based and sometimes this does not follow the interpage layout and flow as some people want. It's actually a question that would be better answered on a per-need basis.
