Lightbulb How to check the page extension for URLs? .php? .html? .etc...

How to check the page extension for common websites like yahoo.com or miniclip.com? .php? .html? .etc...

I found a way to accomplish this: type in index.html, index.php, etc... to see which one gives the same home page as just typing 'yahoo.com'
This, however, is very dumb and time consuming and it does't always work.

Is there a better way to check the page extension?

Furthermore, for a url like http://armorgames.com/play/2933/finding-santa , how do i check the extension for that?

I think you are a bit confused.

Even if you type index.php and get a valid page, it might be a redirect (or forward) , so you can't really assume anything. In fact, there might not be any page (physical file) at all.

Exclamation Thankx. though it further confuses me.

Not exactly the answer i was expecting. But it does help me understand why i couldn't figure out the extension for some urls.

So there is no legit ways of finding out the extensions? Afterall, it may not be a physical page at all.

for urls like index.php?id=3, i can see why there isn't a physical page, but why isn't a physical page for urls like http://armorgames.com/play/2933/finding-santa.

Could you or anyone else please elaborate on how the url system works?
And maybe explain this url to me: http://www.miniclip.com/games/snow-line-2/en/

Thx appreciate all the help

URL is just a unique identifier of a resource that lives on some web server. It can be mapped to a physical file, but it doesn't have to. It can be a service instead that lives inside a web server (and in fact is built out of many many files).

why do you need an absolute path? doesn't the relative one works?
