If you want a jumpstart way ahead of your class, either build you a local webserver using XAMPP
http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html, or get a cheap or free hosting account.
Use one of their autoinstallers and install a free CMS or blog such as JOOMLA or Wordpress.....
Practice customizing the CMS template, do your graphics in photoshop, and edit the code/css either in the backend of the CMS or FTP.....
Most designers miss an important element/skill coming out of school -
and that real world application of their GRAPHICS to content management (this could mean the difference between no job and a $30 hour job.
I did design for 3 years using just dreamweaver and photoshop, but when I grew up and really wanted to make some money in this field I HAD TO LEARN CONTENT MANAGEMENT & CSS.... and that was 7 years ago.
