As every one have noticed, Dreamweaver is really the best. I used to make web sites using Notepad but after they launched macromedia dreamweaver(thats the first before Adobe bought it) and up until now I'm using.

Photoshop is the best software for website design, in Photoshop you will first create the jpg image by creating layers and matching the colors of theme. After that you need to cut the images as per website template layout and create HTML template. The site is ready now.

The adobe suite is definitely the best but very expensive is you can't afford dreamweaver photoshop flash fireworks ect...then there are some good alternatives. Although adobe gives amazing student discounts you should check out.

Notepad2 (free) or one of the other enhanced versions is all you should use if you want to learn html. It will also force you to learn CSS properly. DW and the lot mess up CSS and html code is bloated.

Photoshop is great for images and lousy at writing code when you slice one. Slice it and then write your own code.

There is no software that compares with the ability to write your own code. If you're making your site with Dreamweaver and something goes wrong, will you know how to correct it?

How about Dreamweaver with a good HTML book on the side?

I use photoshop to lay my sites out then slice it up and code it in notepad. If you are a novice I recommend dreamweaver.

If you want a jumpstart way ahead of your class, either build you a local webserver using XAMPP http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html, or get a cheap or free hosting account.

Use one of their autoinstallers and install a free CMS or blog such as JOOMLA or Wordpress.....

Practice customizing the CMS template, do your graphics in photoshop, and edit the code/css either in the backend of the CMS or FTP.....

Most designers miss an important element/skill coming out of school - and that real world application of their GRAPHICS to content management (this could mean the difference between no job and a $30 hour job.

I did design for 3 years using just dreamweaver and photoshop, but when I grew up and really wanted to make some money in this field I HAD TO LEARN CONTENT MANAGEMENT & CSS.... and that was 7 years ago.
