What is the best software for web design?

I'm a student in computer informations systems technology and we are starting to create websites next week. I am curious what is the all round best software so that I don't find myself having to upgrade or download tons of different software.

No. Dreamweaver is a WYSWYG HTML editor. You can also use it as a plain text editor if you work in Code view.

You are going to need a graphics program as well.

If you to do Flash type files, you'll need that too (or a similar program).

Photoshop will export to HTML but it creates a table layout with a huge amount of coding and the images are named funny. You'll have to rename the images with meaningful names to avoid having to open each one each time you want to know what it is, then fix the code created by Photoshop.

For me, the perfect combination and the dynamic duo - Photoshop and Dreamweaver - is the best! From basic to complex website design, you can accomplish your project successfully using these two software.

On XP, I prefer Macromedia Homesite 5 for HTML/CSS and other code. Photoshop for graphics.

I use a plain text editor.

There is nothing wrong with a wysiwyg but it often becomes a crutch.

I've been using photoshop and dreamweaver, but my friend showed me how powerful fireworks can be. It's very easy to make quality sites with fireworks.

I say check out youtube, it's a great learning device, they show you how to make websites with photoshop and dreamweaver very easily.

A good instructional book for Dreamweaver is called Dreamweaver CS4 The Missing Manual. I found it complete and well written.
